5 Star Album; 4 Star Bonus Tracks.......2002-10-04
Linkin Park's debut album, "Hybrid Theory", was the best-selling album of 2001, and my favorite album, ever. I liked every song, so I had to buy this album. I payed 35 ... dollars for 2 songs. Stupid? Yes. But, at the time, I didn't have a CD-burner, and I didn't know that the "One Step Closer" single also had the 2 bonuses, for 1/3 the price. But, I bought it, and I'm happy. Let's start off with "High Voltage", shall we? I give it a 4/5. Why not a 5? Because I HATE rap. I can stand rap-rock, which is what you will find on every track on the normal album. But, this is almost a straight-up rap song. Chester hardly sings (the part where he does is the best part in the whole song), and the only music is coming from the turntables. But, for some reason, instead of giving this a 2 or a 3 (or even a 0), I give it a 4. Not to suck up to LP, but because I like it, even after all I just said. Now for "My December". It's the more popular bonus track, and if you've ever seen Linkin Park live, you've probably heard this song, because they more-than-often play it. And, like "High Voltage", it's not typical Linkin Park. In this one, Chester pretty much sings the whole song. And, also like the last one, there's no member of the band playing their instruments except Joe Hahn. In this one, he makes his "beats", but it's also covered with a beautiful piano. I don't know if it's because I got it around Christmas or what, but, for some reason, this song DOES remind you of it. 5/5, b!tch.
Hybrid Theory (+2 Bonus Tracks) [Import].......2002-08-02
I must say that "My December" and "In The End" are my favorite songs. "My December" steps away from the hardcore rock sound and adds that soothing, kick-back tone that will relax you yet also force you to put your CD player on repeat. One of my other favorite tracks is "Cure For The Itch", a song that any true hip-hop/turntablist fan will love. And for anyone that doesn't understand the name of the song, think about...how do you cure and itch? Scratch it, which is exactly what this track is, scratching!
