Album Description

Mastered by Leon Zervos (Aerosmith - 'Nine Lives', Dream Theater - 'Falling Into Infinity'/'Once In A Livetime', Steve Morse - 'Major Impacts'), Full On! is 7-string guitar virtuoso Toshi Iseda's first solo CD, featuring over 74 minutes of music produced, written, arranged and engineered by Iseda. One of the pioneering players of the 7-string solidbody electric guitar (Toshi has been playing 7-strings exclusively since 1991), Iseda is considered the foremost up-and-coming solo instrumental guitarist on the music scene. The fifteen track CD takes you on a journey through musical soundscapes, sonic tapestries, and over-the-top guitar. <P>The opening track on Full On!, "Tokushima", brings to mind visions of the Orient with its exotic colors. The title track is a fast-paced double bass kick in the ass song that couldn't be heavier if Metallica played it. "High Noon" features an almost "wild-west-like" guitar solo duel between Michael Angelo and Iseda that is about as over the top as guitar playing can get. Other highlights include the groovacious and funkified "Custer's Last Groove" and "Predator" - with a guest appearance from former Dixie Dregs and Vinnie Moore bassist Andy West, the soul-wrenching ballad "The Sheltering Sky", featuring guest Tony MacAlpine on guitar, the upbeat tempo "92 In The Shade", featuring Tony MacAlpine on keyboards, and the mysterious "Affair With A Stranger", with Michael Terrana (Yngwie Malmsteen/Tony MacAlpine) on drums and Michael Angelo returning for another appearance on guitar. <P>Each CD is hand-signed by the guitarist on the back of the CD insert and includes a Toshi Iseda Signature guitar pick. THIS CD IS A "MUST HAVE" FOR ANY FAN OF INSTRUMENTAL GUITAR! - Over The Top! Records, Inc. <P>Toshi is endorsed by Aphex, Audix, Digitech, DiMarzio, Dunlop, Ernie Ball, Eventide Harmonizers, Monster Cable, Morley, Ovation, Randall Amplifiers and Tech 21 NYC - Over The Top! Records, Inc

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars someone stuffed the ballot box........2005-07-01

I strongly suggest anyone who was bored enough to surf onto this product's page to check out the music of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Andy Timmons, Paul Gilbert, and even Steve Morse...

because this record tries to rip off all of their styles however doesn't quite come close, therefore rendering it as a mediocre effort.

[...]

avoid mediocre music, listen to real guitarists.

5 out of 5 stars Freakin awesome!.......2005-03-23

I bought this cd and it totally blew me away. Toshi definately puts feeling into his music along with a ton of energy. I'd recommend this cd to anyone

1 out of 5 stars Soooooooo boring..........2005-03-23

[...] This guy is in no way original. His music lacks of soul and his technique is just ok. [...] If you are looking for some "new" guitar player other than Satriani/Vai you can buy Andy Timmons just because he's REALLY great! That guy put SOUL in his music, unlike Iseda.

5 out of 5 stars frikkin awesome.......2004-07-21

Toshi is king. . .if you think that this isn't musical, then much like the cop from reservoir dogs, you have ear troubles. Melody and shred fused together in a perfect balance

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing CD!.......2004-04-03

I never usually write reviews of CD's but I felt inclined to do so for this particular CD for 2 reasons. A) It's a great CD. Period. B) Because of the last posted "review" couldn't be more wrong. According to that last "review", apparentaly John Petrucci, Tony MacAlpine and Marty Freidman don't know what they're talikng about. They all gave Toshi Iseda's CD great comments. But hey, what would they know about great guitar playing? (inject a bit of sarcasm there)
Mr. Iseda's playing contain both feeling and technical expertise. All shown in some wonderful songwriting and compositions.
Tunes like the "Sheltering Sky" and Affair With A Stranger" are laced with emotion and very technical guitar playing. All in one song. That's something very difficult to do. For anyone.
The full on (no pun intended) of songs like 'High Noon' and 'Full On!' show that Mr. Iseda can hang with the fastest of shredders around going toe-to-toe in 'High Noon' with shred god Michael Angelo.
The harmony's in 'If I Were King' are very Steve Vai like but still sound great. His lead tone in this song sounds alot like Paul Gilbert. A little harsh for my taste but none-the-less some awesome guitar playing.
The funky Hendrix-like guitar playing in 'Custer's Last Groove' and 'Predator' show that Toshi can groove with the best of 'em! He'd make Jimi Proud.
Then there's 'After The Fix' for all you Trower, Marino, and Hendrix fans. In the liner notes of this song he says "it was a live recording with all the mistakes left in." Jeez, even his mistakes sound better than most people's playing!
In all, this is an awesome CD and highly recommend checking it out.
Another great CD with Mr. Iseda on it that I recently purchased is the 'RAMA 1' disc. There's some totally killer playing on this from a whole host of amazing musicians including bassist Andy West, drummers Mike Portnoy, Rod Morgenstein and Jonathan Mover. As well as keyboardist T. Lavitz, Jens Johanssen and Mike Keneally. Check that out too!
