Rockabilly Primer.......2006-07-18
Cat Music is a fantastic compilation of some lesser-known rockabilly artists. With 19 songs clocking in at just 45 minutes, Cat Music gets right to the point with almost punk rock-like efficiency. You get a nice selection that includes Gene Vincent, Alvis Wayne, Diana Wisdom, Merle Travis, and several other artists. This is vintage stuff, and the sound quality is surprisingly good given the age of the recordings.
Cat Music is a great introduction to the rockabilly sound, and is the kind of disc that should be handed to anyone who enjoys the Stray Cats or the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
PS - The Alvis Wayne track "I Wanna Eat Your Pudding" means exactly what you think it does. That song makes Warrant's "Cherry Pie" seem subtle. It's hard to keep from cracking up when that one is playing!
