3 out of 5 stars Hey...play nice.......2006-02-04

Nikki Webster has had about 9 top 40 hits on the Australian singles chart including the multi-platinum Strawberry Kisses. She has released three albums and 5 non albums songs to date.

This compilation was compiled by her record label after they dropped her, Wendy Matthews (excuse me) and others when sony/bmg merged.

Her 1st album was recorded when she was 13/14 and so her voice was still developing. The other 2 albums were released before she was 18.

The music here is pop and the lyrics may seem banal but a 14 year old can hardly sing songs like will you love me tomorrow or physical.

At 19 (yes she has long since finished pre-school)Nikki's voice is much stronger. It is a lovely instrument and she has a great sense of colour, dynamic and phrasing - she doesn't just screech out a song like some, or turn a one word syllable into 25.

Nikki will no doubt grow as an artist and record more age appropriate stuff. Some of the stuff here ain't for me (her cool cover of ABC is missing)but she is one hellova talent and I wish her all the best in the future.

The highlight here is her Sydney Olympic number Under the southern skies... strawberry kisses though is a guilty pleasure.

2 out of 5 stars Grow Up Already!.......2005-12-22

Alright, it was sort of cute when she twelve, but now, at age eighteen, it's starting to get just a little old. Nikki Webster is Australia's Hilary Duff. Teenagers love to bash her and talk about how stupid she is, yet she still tops every chart with the release of every song. What's genuinely depressing is the fact that she actually has a decent voice, and could record some good tracks if her style matured. If I had to guess, I'd say that she's being told what to sing and perform by her managers and record label, and most likely has no control over anything she does. She has to, at least, be a little embarissed, I mean, if I was eighteen and singing this stuff I'd be positively mortified to be seen in public.
