5 out of 5 stars What a Great Surprise!.......2003-07-25

I went into the CD store to find a CD of Nickel Creek. I got the name mixed up and ended up purchasing Buffalo Nickel by mistake. I couldn't return the CD, so I kept it. What adisk! Although I know nothing about the group, it's now one of my favorite rock CDs. All the songs wear very well--like an old leather jacket. Not a single bad track on the disk! Intelligent lyrics with original melodic lines that don't sound contrived or too "hooky." Nothing overly processed here--just straight forward poetry with classic guitar timbres. Gary Stier's voice is just the right mix of intensity and emotion without being pretentious or reverbed up. "Miss America and I" is a hidden classic--revealing adepth of self-awareness in the lyrics that is seldom found today. The disk was made in 2000 and I'm awaiting the next recording. Where are you guys?

5 out of 5 stars Music For The Road ..........2001-04-26

I~ LOVE~ THESE~ GUYS!

This is the best CD I've purchased in the last 2 years. Buffalo Nickel's sound is sort of a cross between the Gin Blossoms and the Eagles - Southern / Alternative Rock at it's best. If you are planning a road trip any time soon, you need this one for your car. The best tracks (and lines) are:

This Ain't Nowhere ("I've seen the light between wrong and right")

Miss America & I ("what the hell did I know about right, I've been wrong all my life")

Good Day

Coming Up Roses

Stayed (my favorite track)

Evil Wind ("four sets of tires later, this ache is still as strong, it's an Evil Wind that's pushin' me along")

Actually, they're all great tracks. Buffalo Nickel is a much welcomed break from the over-abundance of kiddie dance garbage and cRAP "music" that currently permeates the airwaves. Buy this CD and take it on the road.

5 out of 5 stars It's Great!.......2001-03-30

I have been following the progress of this band since back in the day when they were Lonesome Jones. A couple years and several changes later they are still incredible! This album is phenomenal. Have a Good Day is light happy music with black lyrics-the combination is explosive! One Man's Ceiling has a great southern rock kick that competes easily with The Black Crowes. Everyone can relate to Let It All Come Down and the trauma of relationships. Since I got this cd I haven't put it down and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys GOOD music.
