Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great either - only for electro-pop fans with nothing else to get.......2006-01-03

I think "The Cover Up" is I Am The World Trade Center's best album, though that's not saying too much. This is mostly because it's their most accessible. It also contains way better songs than on their previous albums which were mostly pretty terrible. The songs are kind of a guilty pleasure and relatively cheesy, but there are many interesting aspects to them. The singer has a decent voice I think, but it doesn't work most of the time. It unfortunately doesn't have too many highlights ("Future Sightings" is their best one). It's not bad, but it's not good either. A lot of the songs have interesting qualities (whether it be parts of the lyrics, singing, or instrumentation) that other parts of the song tend to "ruin". Fans of electro-pop will be slightly satisfied (though not greatly). Definitely not for everyone - for fans of electro-pop only (buy it if you have nothing better to get).

Highlights include:
"No Expectations" (sort of)
"Future Sightings"
"Love Tragedy" (parts of it)
"Follow Me" (kind of)
"Different Stories" (sort of)
"His 'N' Hers" (parts of it)
"Silent Film Stars" (parts of it)

4 out of 5 stars IAWTC rocks the socks.......2005-03-29

I have seen this band many times live, and they are awesome!! Their music is techno dancey but still good enough to listen to on its own. Totally worth a listen.

And interestingly enough, I am a student at UGA and Amy Dykes is on of my instructors. Instead of studying for her test tomorrow, I am on the Internet writing reviews, oh well!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good electro-pop.......2004-06-29

I Am the World Trade Center's third album "Cover Up" is the first one I have purchased. I'm a pretty big fan of retro-sounding electro (Adult., Miss Kittin, Mount Sims, etc.), so the instrumental backdrop of this album was right up my alley. IATWTC's sound is definitely more rooted in pop music - I would say they have something to offer for fans of Saint Etienne, but with a more blatant electronic sound.

My only complaints about the album is that a select few of the songs don't seem developed enough. Not to take away from the really fantastic tracks ("No Expectations," "The Cover Up," "Love Tragedy," "Silent Film Stars") - which really justify the purchase of this album. The singing kind be a little grating when listening to the entire thing in one sitting - Amy Dykes can carry a tune, but I think her voice is a little bit abrasive (not as "pretty" as, say, Saint Etienne's Sarah Cracknell), and it would have been better to place the vocal track a little further in the background.

Sadly, weeks before the release of this album, Dykes was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, and the band is on hiatus until she recovers. Get well, Amy!
