perfect pop.......2005-05-12
most of the uneducated among us tend to snicker at the mention of the rembrandt's. "oh, that friends song" so sad that they will never know what they are missing. those of us in the minority have relished our treasures for years. i was introduced to the rembrandts by my high school girlfriend. i understand if my opinions on this band are now considered colored by the memories i associate with them. but seperate from all of that, the first record knocked me out, and does to this day. with the deserved success of "just the way it is ,baby", when it came time to record the follow up, i think there was more of a budget, more time, etc. the culmination is as close to a perfect pop record as has been created since the beatles. i can list a handful of records i can play top to bottom without wanting to flip past at least one song. this is one of them. the thing that gets me about most good pop music is how deceptively simple it sounds. then you grab a guitar and try to play along and you realize the amount of craft that is put into the art. bottom line. the songs are great and varied, the performances are inspired, the record sounds great. especially now in this age of manufactured pop, bands that don't realize they aren't really playing punk, and creed clones. i have been disappointed by the rembrandt's in recent years. the LP record had moments of sheer genius, and those outweighed the filler. i would recommend any of the first three records to anyone, but if i had to choose one to start with, untitled would be it. when i am king, this is the kind of stuff you will hear on the radio.
Refreshing, intelligent and thoughtful........2003-04-08
These are the three words I would use to describe the second Rembrandts work. Unfortunately, like the first album, these are the reasons why it wasn't a commercial success. Each song is crafted with one goal in mind. That is to make good music. From the rock feel of "Johnny Have You Seen Her?" to the Spanish influence of "Back of Your Mind" each song is unique and tells it's own story. It was when The Rembrandts were approached to create "I'll Be There For You" that the duo began their fall to mediocre pop drivel. Get the first and the second Rembrandts CDs and just ignore the third. Maybe it will just go away (except every time you flip past friends).
It's tough to be the one in the middle!.......2002-05-01
Everyone remembers The Rembrandts 1st album with the very cool hit song "just the way it is, baby" and you can't get away from the theme song from "friends" that was on their 3rd album but for me the best work The Rembrandts ever put out was on their 2nd album "Untitled" Every song on here is very melodic with catchy hooks and amazing vocal harmonies, no real big hits on this one but very solid from start to finish. Without a doubt my favorite by The Rembrandts.
Not as good as the Debut.......2001-11-20
firslty the person who said this album all sounds like IBT4U obviously hasnt paid attention to this album as it sounds nothing like the travesty that, that song was so please ignore them.anyways
This album is not as good as 'The Rembrandts' but thats not too say its all that bad. This time the boys find themselves somewhere between middle of america and spain. On an album full of mid west tales but to the beat of a spanish flavour, see Back of your mind. On this album some of the boys trademark jangly guitars go walk abouts but its not too bad as the vocals on this album are VERY strong and are used to great effect. Again tales of loves found and lost populate this album as it does with all their work. Again this album is probably the weakest Rembrandts album mainly due to the experimentation of different sounds but its still well above average.
