Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars the drang is in the house.......2003-11-11

i wish i could give them 10 stars b/c that's what they should get. on top of their game musically and very relevant lyrics; ester drang has got to be my favoritest band these days. i have both infinite keys and goldenwest and i can honestly say that goldenwest is just as beautiful as the latter. i suggest for listeners who appreciate rock and soul and art and ... etc. i like em... a lot.

5 out of 5 stars amazing!.......2002-12-21

this band really knows what its doing! the artists are so talented. it will transport you into a dream world. unlike any album they have released to date. buy and stand amazed!

3 out of 5 stars Close, but yet so far.......2002-12-09

In a world where most music written by Christians comes off sounding contrived and shallow, Ester Drang's Goldenwest is a welcome surprise. Here you will find melodies that sound honest and thoughtful, not just simply songs that are trying to sound like every other song in the market today. This is real music.

Unfortunately, as real as it is, I found Goldenwest to get rather dull once I reached the fifth song or so. Maybe it's the fact that some of the first songs, especially "Is Nothing New" and "Repeating the Procedure," have such an emotional power to them that the remaining tracks sound pale in comparison. The only song that is at least listenable near the end is probably "How Good is Good Enough," with its striking, dramatic chorus.

Ester Drang's instrumentation is wonderfully diverse. Even in its dull moments, I had to admire the use of strings, chimes, and other instruments. It gives the album far more personality than if it only contained standard guitars and drums. Just listen to the beautifully-orchestrated title track to see what I mean.

If Ester Drang can learn to improve in the next few years, they could become a group to rival Radiohead and other legendary, unique artists. As they are, Ester Drang is better than most of the music world, but they still need practice. I sincerely hope they succeed.

5 out of 5 stars The best album of 2001! Yes, really!.......2002-03-06

In my humble opinion, goldenwest is the best album nobody heard in 2001. If you enjoyed albums like The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips, or O K Computer by radiohead, then do yourself a favor and buy goldenwest now.
goldenwest has layer upon layer of pure sonic heaven. Really, there isn't much more that I could expect from an album. I'd also place goldenwest up there with Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. If you like your music to be thoughtful, yet thought provoking; buy goldenwest now while it is still in print!
