Customer Reviews:
Good to see on CD...now let's have the rest of them!.......2005-12-19
I was a HUGE Jo Jo Gunne fan and was bummed when they called it a day...but when this solo LP came out, I snapped it up. This album is a joy from start to finish...from the opening of Snakes on the Run to the Traffic cover Medicated Goo, to the remake of Jo Jo Gunne's To The Island (he would revisit the Gunne catalog on the Thunder Island album with an excellent update of Babylon) to the joyful reggae of Turn it Up...it's hard not to sit there and smile with the headphones on. If you liked his work in spirit and Jo Jo Gunne, you've got to hear this one...if you have this one and the other two he did for Asylum, then you're like me and want the two Capitol albums he did post 1980 on CD in this country without the outrageous price tag they want for the imports (if you can still find them)! Also check out Big Chain...the return of Jo Jo Gunne...check out the band's website for previews of that one. There's justice in the world...they're back! It's been too long since we've heard from Jay. Enjoy!
California Boogie Rock and Roll.......2004-09-16
The first solo effort by Jay Ferguson has Jay playing quaterback and catching the touchdown passes at the same time with a great supporting team of talented musicians(it's hard not to make a football reference with a title like All Alone in the End Zone). The guitar work of Joe Walsh and Joey Murcia, the percussion of Joe Vitale, and bassist George Perry provide their individual touches for Jay's songwriting. Overall it is a California boogie rock and roll album at it's finest. Any fan of Spirit, The James Gang, or Tommy Bolin will enjoy it instantly. The best part is that Jay's music and song writing take you back to the mid seventies West Coast feel with songs that still sound fresh today. Joe Walsh fans will enjoy hearing his distinct and familiar phrasing on carefully crafted songs that have not been worn out by classic rock radio.
