Customer Reviews:
Acoustic live album.......2004-07-23
This is Golden Earring's 1997 acoustic live album recorded in the Cafe de Kroon in Amsterdam, and one of their most beloved and popular albums. While you may be skeptical of songs like Twilight Zone being performed unplugged, they really do a good job with them! I recommend the Complete Naked Truth, though. It comes with Naked II. And, as always, I have to recommend the Bloody Buccaneers album as well.
Another reason why.......2001-12-10
Once again this tremendous overlooked (in the U.S.) band delivers. This is a hard driving live performance with the songs played true to form. And it's acoustic, which makes it even more amazing. One of rocks finest groups and it's a must have for Earring fans.
Nice Unplugged Greatest Hits Album.......2001-09-28
This is a greatest hits ablum, done live at a Dutch radio station. It is "unplugged". It has drums and electric bass, but no electric lead guitar.
Golden Earring was never a great band, but they did have a number of fantastic songs. They also have a wealth of bad songs. This album is a mixture of good and bad songs. All the good songs are played great. Twilight Zone, Radar Love, Mad Love and Eight Miles High are all extended out to more than seven minutes and there are wonderful acoustic guitar solos. But, a number of the other songs are just bad no matter how they are played.
If you are any kind of fan of Golden Earring, this is a great album to get. If you only like the hits, you still might appreciate the versions done here.
Note that there is also a two CD version of this called Fully Naked, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Based on the track list, it doesn't look like this double CD version has anything special to add.
Golden Earring is a Dutch group that formed in 1961, playing pop music. The bassist and singer have been in the group from the beginning, but a number of different musicians came and went. In 1969, the group solidified with the current line up that has lasted over 30 years.
Golden Earring was never an original band. They copied other people's styles. In 1969, they were a lot like a British rock/blues/psychodelic band. They have one album where they do an 18 minute version of the Byrd's Eight Miles High. They moved more to straight rock. They had a monster hit with Radar Love, and then a mildler hit years later with Twilight Zone. Both songs were popular because of a driving bass rhythm. But, they have a number of albums with absolutely no good songs.
Naked Truth is great!.......2000-11-30
I bought this CD several years ago as a long time Golden Earring fan. It is one of my top ten albums of all time. Great from end to end. I loved it so much that I went to a European distributor and purchased the video for this concert. A must buy for any Earring fan! PS. This disk has not left my car disk changer except to play in my home player!
