Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Greatest Folk Duo since Simon and Garfunkle.......2004-02-24

The only reason this CD rates 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact it was recorded using an electric band, and really does not capture the intensity of their live performances on the street with only an acoustic guitar (as alluded to by the above reviewer.)
If this duo had emerged 20 or 30 years earlier, they would be as famous as Simon and Garfunkel, as their song writing and vocal harmonies are every bit as good in my opinion. Unfortunately they were born 25 years to late and emerged in the middle of the Grunge Rock era in Seattle, and enjoyed only a local and loyal cult following thirsting for a folk alternative to the angry Seattle sound.
Great music and production, just not quite as spectacular as the legacy of their many live performances.

5 out of 5 stars "Bananafish...Catch the FEVER!!!".......2000-10-11

The very first time I heard this group was as they were playing an impromptu "concert" on the sidewalks of Pike Place Market in Seattle--just two guys and a guitar. Yet, their energy and enthusiasm for their songs were infectious! I felt not a "want", but a true physical "need" to purchased a cassette from them right then and there!

Songs like, "Only the Truth is Funny" and "We Breathe the Same Air" are just two of my favorites in a collection of great songs. The lyrics are written to reach the many facets of life--some silly, some deep, and some ironic. The words are timeless and make you take a different view of the world around you. And they way the two harmonize; you can't help but sing along!

Years later, after the tape had worn quite thin from too many hours of playing to count, I found I had to replace my "Bananafish" fix. I searched high and low and found a CD in a local Seattle music store. I promptly contacted the number on the CD to find if they were still performing. To my good fortune they were!

Watching them perform on a stage, in a true concert setting, only intensified my excitement as a listener and made me a committed fan! Though the years had passed, they had not lost any of their energy or passion for their songs! And to be surrounded by others, who had been infected by the same "Bananafish Virus", and sang along with the group was incredible! I attended future concerts each time they were in town...never disappointed!

Well, a few more years have passed and the two gentlemen, Jay Pinto and Tom Kennedy, who are "Bananafish", have gone their separate creative ways. And though there are no more upcoming concerts which I am aware of, I can still relive the musical joy they brought me, so many years ago by popping in the CD and singing along as I drive on the streets of Seattle. (Even a major tie-up in traffic doesn't seem so bad when you are listening to them!)
