5 out of 5 stars something different by toenut.......2001-12-01

toenut is one of those group that when you put them in your cd player make you - happy. i gave them to some of my friends, but they said that i am "sick" when i'm listen to that kind of music. guess, they don't understand it (i know that everything is fine with me). anyway, toenut are playing some funny-psychodelic music, and they enjoy it. they look like real band that play music they like, without compromises (and they are very good at it). even i gave them 5 stars, "information" is more 4,5 stars album (to be exact).
conclusion: if you want something different in your headphones, try with toenut... (its worth of risk)

3 out of 5 stars Good start--proceed to their second album.......2000-01-22

Here's the first album by a very talented group of musicians from Georgia. They play fast, aggressive, angular rock very well. They've got a lot of chops, but there aren't many wasted notes; as I may have mentioned in their review of their second album, they're a very tight group whose best songs evoke a sense of controlled chaos, if that makes any sense at all. Melodies tend to be unrooted tonally, at least to these ears, but they're pretty catchy and stay with you. The emphasis is on the instrumentalists over the vocals; though there are some to be found, the lead singer (Katie Walters) almost functions like another piece of the band. I like "Two in the Pinata" a bit more because I can distinguish between the songs better (of course, it doesn't help when you give your songs generic titles like "Opus" or "Trilogy" or "Song #1"), there's more variety in the arrangements, and while I like Katie's voice, other members of the band also sing lead (at least on one song, I remember). But there's much good material here. Yes, I like the "Prisoner" cut-and-paste song ("What do you want?" "Information." "You won't get it." "By hook or by crook, we will."), and "Jesus Finger" is just great--it's a stompin' Southern boogie number with an amusing "narration" from Katie. Killer raver. And, there are some of those unsung (literally!) songs in the middle that are very good. I would say try the second album first if you're at all interested--then, more than likely you'll come back to this one.

4 out of 5 stars ..mad, spiralling guitar lines, erratic dynamics,.......2000-01-05

devoesque percussive explosions... these are only a few words to describe the insanity that is Toenut. A few more would be:

* paranoiac samples from the psychedelic 60's British television spy show "the Prisoner"

* progressive songwriting.. the most mild of introductions lures the listener into what becomes thrashing conclusions

* Katie's sweet, high-pitched calls mutate into tortured screams
