Customer Reviews:
A Solid Effort From A Solid Man.......2005-10-06
I often hear people say they don't make the kind of music they like any more. I often reply why not try some of the over looked albums from the era you do like. This is the crown jewel of the "over looked chestnuts". This album in an alternate universe would have been one of the biggest of it's time. The music is diverse. The lyrics are good and the musicianship is impeccable. This is a perfect example of the music money machine not backing an excellent piece of work. If you like REO's "Time For Me To Fly" or Crosby, Still and Nash but have visited "Our House" one too many times, try this CD.
I Still Have Dreams is "the one *$%^ song that can make me break down and Cry-i".
Serious, powerful, but uneven.......2003-03-17
Though probably the weakest of Richie's three solo Electra/Asylum recordings, it nevertheless has much to reccomend it. As with his previous release (Dance a Little Light), the affects of the disco era can be felt especially on the first track "Ooh Child". Thankfully, it does not last, and we get back to the more pop-country-rock Richie does so well. In fact the greatest strength of this record lies in the all-out rock and roll numbers, "Come On" and "What's the Matter, Please?" on which Richie sings with urgency and power, even letting his voice get a little raspy on the latter. Also of note are two mellow tracks written by band member Billy Batstone, "I was a Fool" and "I Still Have Dreams". These are simply examples of great songwriting and of course, Richie's voice puts a beautiful luster on them. Also of note, the bass playing of Leland Sklar is featured throughout and is absolutely amazing!
