Customer Reviews:
A rock album for grown-ups........2006-07-05
"Bad, Bad One", is the original and I think the better version of the album "Shine"
This album is filled with thoughtful, well written songs of love and pain that make up the lives of adults. Maybe that is the reason that this album has not done better financially, as music sales and radio always seem to be geared toward the teen market. I, for one, love this album, I have bought several copies myself and given them to friends going through different emotional issues as a form of therapy for them. It has one of the most romantic songs ever to me in the song "Stand", what we really want from those we love.
So...if you would like a great album for grown up issues, and if you don't have "Shine" already, get yourself a copy of "Bad, Bad One" and enjoy.
Bad Bad One indeed!.......2005-03-12
Meredith can't sing and her music is so trite it's pathetic. I can't believe any majob label wants her on their roster. The only half decent thing she put out was that lame Alanis Morissette [...]
great stuff.......2004-02-07
i love meredith brooks. she is a great singer and writes great songs. i hope she releases a new CD soon.
This album goes nowhere.......2003-02-19
I don't really think anyone was checking for Meredith Brooks after her 1997 hit, and her latest album doesn't really do much either. The title says it best: this album really is a Bad Bad One.
The first song, "Crazy", is just that, especially the background vocals. The backup singers don't fare much better elsewhere on the album, as evidenced on the lazy "Lucky Day" and the trite "Shine". And the lyrics aren't brilliant either. Most of these songs feel like they were written in five minutes...TOTAL. On the title track, you'll hear Meredith saying things like, "I wouldn't blame you if you tried to hang me." Whoa. That's a little too dark, don't you think?
Another flaw is the production, because a lot of the songs toward the beginning of the album have music we've heard several times before. In fact, the only really decent song on here is "Where Lovers Meet", but even that song suffers from cheesy lyrics. In the end...is this album worth picking up? In the words of her song "High", "no, no, no, no, no."
