Customer Reviews:
A product begging for your fatass dirty dollar.......2006-01-26
Ok, there are some painful covers on here. Maybe I'm too used to Tool's sound and Maynard's voice, but this was practially cringe-inducing... Unless I'm missing out seriously by not listening to the whole song, I think the previews tell you all you need to know.
1) Disgustipated - Meh. Not horrible. Nothing too outstanding.
2) Reflection - Huh? This is a waste.
3) Stinkfist - Maynard is so full of emotion. This is practically pop.
4) Part of Me - Nice try at being Prodigy. And by nice, I mean horrible.
5) Intolerance - Are we trying to be Creed as a lounge act?
6) Die Eier Von Satan - So far, the high point. Nice little techno "reimagining" of the original.
7) 4 Degrees - One of the "tributes" that tries soooo hard to be the original.
8) Anema - AHHHHH!!! NO! PLEASE MAKE THIS STOP!
9) Hush - Okay. Almost campy enough to make it amusing.
10) Opiate - Ugh. Are these guys even trying?
11) Prison Sex - Just another generic-sounding "hard rock" band.
12) Sober - Wow. You added a hi-hat and a weak singer. Talk about a tribute.
Why do people do these things? Seriously. Tribute albums are always a tricky business (business being the operative word); a good cover can reinvent a song and make the cover the new standard ("All Along the Watchtower" on down to "Hurt"), but nothing can fall flatter than a bad one, which is what we have here. Even if you're a Tool completist, spend your money on the String Tributes, which are at least something different.
Then again, Maynard sold his soul to make a record... and you bought one.
Gothic Tool.......2005-04-09
LOL I've been reading the other reviews and I didn't see any mention of Tool being covered by GOTHIC bands on this CD... All of these bands are from the gothic genre and that's why they don't sound identical to the originals... Why would you want to buy a CD twice anyway? I think it's great that other bands, from different genres took on the challenge of covering the all mighty TOOL... If you don't like gothic music, don't buy this CD. Period.
Tool.......2005-01-29
I have to give this CD 4 stars. This is NOT a Tool album, Tool fans who are expecting to hear songs that are similar to Tool, don't get your hopes up.
This is purely an industrial album. Bands such as Razed in Black, Maya Hyena and others, have made their mark in this style and know how to make a good cover song. Some, even though not as much, still do the job in the same direction. What you can excpect off of this album is quality industrial tracks, which happen to be Tool songs. NOT the other way around. If you like industrial, and are familiar with Tool, you will like this CD. Otherwise, have a listen to both Tool, and some of the bands featured on this CD first.
Flat Interpretation..........2004-09-27
This CD does little justice to the depth and atmosphere of Tool. Most of the bands presented on this CD offer mediocre remakes in the Electronica vein of musical genres. Most songs sound flat with very little offered in terms of listening enjoyment.
Personally, I would only recommend this CD for fans of both Tool and Electronica. If you are an avid Tool fan, and dislike Electronica (some people call it Techno-rock or even Rocktronica), you should definitely avoid this album. The only reason I gave this CD two stars is because I was able to listen to a few songs--"Die Eier Von Satan" specifically.
Disappointed greatly.......2004-01-12
Being a Tool fan, I got this cd thinking that if they went to the trouble to making a tribute cd that it would be good. NO, it was terrible. The best song, which doesn't say much, because it isn't that good was Stinkfist. Everything else was crap, I wasted money, and never listened to the cd all the way through, and never tried to listen to it after the first time I got it.
