Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Not best in series, but quite good........2003-05-25

I freely admit that I'm a sucker for remix, and the Plastic series has been an addiction since #2. In fact, after I find an artist on these compilations, half the time I feel let down by their solo work.

No real losers here, but the two that suit me best are Scanty Sandwich "Because of You" (actually, a remix of a phrase from Michael Jackson's cover of Stevie Wonder's "Shoo Be Doo Da Day"). Brief, trite, & infectious, with the most obnoxious filter sweeps I've heard in years.

Then there's Moby, "Porcelain," remixed by Rob Dougan. I almost bought a Moby CD because of this, and I did manage to make a Moby fan jealous because she didn't have this cut.

The whole CD might be a little "thud heavy" for some people, so perhaps you don't want to look to this one for general listening. If you like some well-executed dance music, you'll probably enjoy this.

4 out of 5 stars It's alright but not one of my favorites in the series.......2002-12-08

I really hate to say this but of all the cds that I own in the Plastic Compilation series, the fourth volume has to be my very least favorite cd. Despite the fact that it isn't one of my favorite cds in the series, the cd does have some bright moments. I honestly did not like BT's "Never Gonna Come Back Down" (Hybrid's Breaktek Mix). I never liked that song from BT's last studio album "Movement in Still Life" but the remix just didn't improve the song. I'm not into break beat music which explains my disdain for the song. Sasha and Emerson's "Scorchio" is an alright song but then again, I am not much of a Sasha fan judging by his mixed cds on the Global Underground series. Still "Scorchio" isn't a bad song, just nothing to write home about. Although I am not a break beat fan, I did enjoy The Chemical Brothers' "Out of Control". The Chemical Brothers are cool with me. "Out of Control" is one of my favorite songs from their "Surrender" album. The Sasha remix took me surprised and I loved what he did with the song. On the more sour note, I didn't care for the songs by Trisco, Azzido Da Bass, and Scanty Sandwich. Those were my low moments. The songs were just too repetitive and the vocals on the Scanty Sandwich song got on my nerves. The remaining songs that I do like on this album are the ones by Art of Trance, Paul Van Dyk and Moby, and that is because I am a huge trance fanatic. Other than The Chemical Brothers' music, I can't stomach most break beat music.

5 out of 5 stars Damn Good Comp.........2001-06-03

Well, I'll make this one short, this is a good compilation, very good. Some of the better mixes of the best in the biz, by the best in the biz. If you like BT, Moby, or any of the artists on this one in the least, you'll enjoy the entire album totally. Give it a listen.

5 out of 5 stars I can dig it . . ........2001-03-24

Never was much for Club/Techo music, even when I was stationed in Germany for two years. I bought this mostly for the Moby track, but found a treasure of other tunes and artists on here. Sorry, not much of a critic here, but I can say I dig listening to this while working out, jogging, practicing kendo, etc. My favorite is listening to #7, called "Breathe", while driving thru LA on to San Diego, at night or on another gorgeous, sunny-california day. Some groovey tunes. Check it out.

5 out of 5 stars A good quality release.......2000-12-07

While I don't have any previous volumes of the Plastic series to compare this one to, I feel this is an essential purchase. Initially I bought it just for "Scorchio" by Sasha & Emerson, but after a few listens I really developed a taste for other tracks I hadn't heard.

1) "Never Gonna Come Back Down" - I've been a big BT fan, but never thought much of Hybrid aside from their Godspeed Dub. Although I prefer songs like Flaming June and Blue Skies, I've grown to become a fan of his more breakbeat material. Overall a good effort by both BT & Hybrid.

2) "Scorchio" - My whole reason for buying this. After last year's eye-opener Xpander EP, I had to have this. Of course you can't forget the other man involved - Darren Emerson formerly of Underworld. Who adds more influence to the track... I'd say its a toss-up, but an excellent track nonetheless.

3) "Muzak" - Didn't like this at first listen, but its become a favorite on the album. Fusing trance & disco together was an excellent idea that paid off.

4) "Out Of Control" - I like the Chemical Brothers & Sasha, but this doesn't do much for me. Maybe I haven't listened to it enough, but its definitely not my favorite track on the album.

5) "Because Of You" - This track just doesn't work for me - not too keen on the Jackson 5 vocals. An alright track though.

6) "Under The Water" - I prefer the Deep Dish mixes of this track, but I do like this Faithless mix. A good enough track.

7) "Breathe" - Cygnus X & Art Of Trance are two popular names in trance. Not my favorite mix of "Breathe", but its still a quality one.

8) "Tell Me Why" - My favorite mix of this is the Vandit Mix. Though they don't differ too much (as they are all PvD), I'd rather seen another mix of this. I've also found adding this and Art Of Trance was a weird selection for the album, but I'm guessing it was for variety.

9) "Doom's Night" - What could I say that hasn't already been said about this mix. Its been featured on numerous compilations, and I've had it for months. Its an excellent song.

10) "Porcelain" - To close we are treated with arguably Moby's most popular song. Its been on enough advertisements, and I'm sure more people recognize it than they would realize. A good close to Plastic 4.
