Customer Reviews:
Twin Cities Psychedelia.......2005-07-13
They were actually one of the better local bands in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) at the time. Some of the others were Stillroven "Little Picture Playhouse", The Litter "Action Woman", The Castaways "Liar Liar" and The Trashmen "Surfin' Bird". "A Trip Through Hell" actually is a good album considering on how the recordings were done in those days, and it sounds pretty good now. No, they were not Love, The Blues Magoos or The Seeds, but they were a good band for what we had here in the 60's.
Crystal Ball Surprise.......2005-02-21
What do you do when your favorite high school prom band (circa 1966) goes prog? You enjoy a band that writes songs with the most creepy chord progressions (think abruptly shifting minor chords when you least expect them) over vocals that recall the Association in their heyday (whispery and smooth).
Best tracks: Smooth as Silk, Dr of Philosophy, Underground Music, Fortune Teller's Lie, but ironically the best track of all is their heartfelt and crushing boy loses girl masterpiece, "Blow To My Soul", which will linger in your ears hours after all the other amazing and original tunes stop playing.
Just doesn't do it for me!.......2003-07-31
I'm a big fan of 60's psychedelia, especially some of the lesser known bands. When I first saw this album, I knew I had to get it. I loved the cover artwork, and thought I was in for a dark, psychedelic trip. While it is no doubt a psychedelic album, it doesn't even come close to creating the dark spooky atmosphere it seems to aim for. Needless to say, I was dissapointed. If you're into obscure 60's psychedelia, you've probably already unearthed many of it's fantastic gems. But this is not one of them, I'm sorry to say.
Excellent Psychedelic Album.......2001-07-11
There were SO many "psychedelic" albums released in the U.S. (not to mention the rest of the world) between 1967-1969 that were spectacularly not worthy or stunningly average. This was neither. A litle gem from 1969, this rare album has been reissued on cd with a whole mess of bonus tracks. Some of the bonus tracks are better than others, but all of the original album is excellent and essential if your a conniseur of psychedelia. The nine minue Trip Thru Hell (Part 1) doesn't really seem very dark to me, but it is one of the cooler instrumentals to emerge from this era. Other standout tracks are Cold Spider and Underground Music, but really the whole thing maintains a high standard throughout which is an accomplishment from an album of any genre in my opinion. I would give this about 4 1/2 stars (5 reserved for those very rare genius albums) and recommend it highly!
