Album Description

"Sun Q" is IQU's new foray into pop music. Their trademark experimentation and DIY aesthetic - the kind that won over everyone from white-belt-wearing-hipsters to backpack-hip-hop-heads - remains intact. And now they are ready to add pop music lovers to a growing list of fans. <P>"Sun Q" finds IQU diving headfirst into the disco of Moroder, the talk box funk of Zapp, the ambience of Eno, the `80s new wave of Renegade Soundwave and the pop of Gainsbourg & Hardy. To make things even more interesting, "Sun Q" also includes a cover of Minnie Riperton's classic "Loving You" on theremin. Those of you with A.D.D. who like a little slow jam with your Ritalin: take note. IQU's recordings may be refined, but their live shows border on that of two mad scientists in their laboratory trying to concoct the ultimate dance rock symphony.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Almost a classic - a Japanese-sounding electronica album fans of the genre should love - cheesy at times, though - 4.5 stars.......2006-01-06

IQU's "Sun Q" is a good electronica album which definitely delivers some catchy and fun tunes. Practically every song, except for perhaps "Hamachi", is incredibly entertaining and also very interesting to listen to (they're relatively complex). They use some interesting electronic noises in many of the songs. The girl singer sounds very Japanese and relatively young (though that seems to be a common way of speaking in Japan). The production here is crystal clear, too! Parts of it seem to be a guilty pleasure (parts of "Sun Q" and "The 9th Line", for example), and some of the songs are a little questionable ("Dirty Boy" is one), but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Electronica fans will probably love this CD. Highly recommended!

everything except "Hamachi"
