Customer Reviews:
Calobo's Folk-Rock Live essence captured!.......1999-02-06
This album is excellent! Their studio albums are good, but they don't capture the liveliness, emotion and audience participation that this album does. Some of the best live music theyv'e ever done is on this album. The crystal ballroom in portland is not only their hometown, but a place where they are comfortable and familiar with the fans and the atmosphere. I can truly say that this shows in the music because I've been to one of the shows that appears on this album. The vocals and acoustic guitars are excellent. These guys are really up and coming and if you like bands like Phish, Dave Matthews band, Moe, Strangefolk, String Cheese Incident, etc. Then you'll love this band and this album.
Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous.......1999-02-02
THis is a great CD. THose who have bee fortunate to experience Calobo live know exactly what it's all about. THose who have not seen them yet - do so (you won't be sorry). Calobo is arguably the best band in the Northwest and you'll want to catch 'em before everyone else finally clues in to the fact that they are one of the best live acts around. THis album is enough to demonstrate that. Superb musicianship and singing from this groove-based Oregonian septet. You'll be smiling the whole way through. A nice mix of material - and some personal favorites are officially released for the first time here. THey songs groove in a happy, smile, folk-jam-rock kind of way that'll tickel your ears and jump-start your feet. ....and the real treat is the big stretch in the middle (Billy and Bongo Blues - Funkeytown - Old Nisqually: wow!!!!!!!!!! THis stuff cooks!). Not only can these folks sing and play beautifully, but they have such an abundance of exquisite material (and they are not afraid to sing happy songs - hooray). Buy this one - you will not be disappointed. (and if you live in the Northwest - know how lucky you are to have Calobo in your backyard!)
