Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Best Bread Compilation.......2006-12-07

For me, this is the best compilation of BREAD. The song "Goodbye Girl" is included and that...is a real classic! I never get tired of listening to their songs...so pure and sincere. But the reason I only gave it four stars because their other classic, "Clouds" is not included in this cd. Who can ever forget that song especially the long version..."Clouds Suite" ... nevertheless, owning this cd is absolutely worth it!

5 out of 5 stars A Complete David Gates And Bread Collection.......2006-05-16

In this collection, you can find all the smash hits made by this soft rock group of the 70's like: Make It With You, If, Baby I'm-A Want You, Everything I Own, Diary to name but a few. Every track here is a gem with its remastered sound. I also own the 1990 released "Anthology" but the sound quality of that really lets me down. So I bought this one for a better sound quality and just like I knew, "PERFECT". The most important thing is that "Goodbye Girl" is included. Although it was a David Gates solo hits but it should be included in every Bread greatest hits collection in the future. Just like the title "The Essentials of David Gates And Bread". Highly recommended to every soft rock fans.

4 out of 5 stars David Gates and Bread. Man! I hate that title........2003-10-03

Ok, maybe I'm being political here but as far as I remember, everyone of the songs from the Bread catalouge was originally sold as "BREAD" not "David Gates and Bread". I understand that there are song from Gate's own catalouge here as well, but please. C'mon! There would have been no Bread without James Griffin. You'll remember him as the other principal singer songwriter and co-producer in Bread. Larry Knechtel, a member of the Wrecking Crew with his outstanding wah wah guitar work on "Guitar Man" is the icing on the Bread cake. His musicianship on multiple instruments saves the day for Bread so many times . Mike Botts drumming through out is solid and more then appropriate to give Bread the ultimate pop feel. This is truly a band that (like the Beatles) had four strong honest musicians that contributed to make Bread a name synonomus with the 70s.
But Bread should no more be referred to as David Gates and Bread then the Beatles should be called Paul McCartney and the Beatles. It's an insult to the other members. Would I recommend this album? Well if you can't buy all the Bread re-releases (which is what I would recommend) then save your money and buy "Retrospective". It better represents Bread in my opinion.
David Gates and Bread? Give me a break, pleeese.

5 out of 5 stars Where's 'Take me now'.......2003-07-26

This Bread song collection keeps me stuck to my hi-fi. It has almost all the best hits. I don't have to hold the CD player remote to push fast forward. But I was looking for "Take me now" which keeps me reminiscing those good old high school days. I was a bit dissapointed discovering my favorite David Gates' love song was missing but I still recommend this gem.
