Customer Reviews:
Excellent piano pounding rock and roll.......2006-03-16
Pete Hodgson and his band play excellent piano-based rock and roll, and have a style very much like that of Jerry Lee Lewis, without being mere imitators.
The previous reviewer (F. Hagan) summed up this album pretty well, so there is not much to add - except maybe for the recommendation from the back cover (by Chris Cummings): "The next time anyone says 'There's no rock 'n' roll worth listening to after 1959', play them your favorite track from this album and watch the jaw drop."
The Spirit of Real Old Fashioned Rock.......2003-09-15
If you like rock n' roll and think the best music ever recorded came out of Sun Record Sessions, then you're going to love "Rockin' Daddy!" from Pete Hodgson & the Fireballs (Raucous Records). Proudly advertised as having been recorded on vintage equipment, this reviewer can attest to the fact that when played for listeners, this album will be frequently mistaken for Jerry Lee Lewis originals.
Classic boogie woogie piano and spirited fun can be enjoyed with tracks like "You Can't Break the Chains of Love," "Travellin' Light," or "Rockin' Daddy." Clear honky tonk styling backs up more thoughtful ballads like "I'll Run a Mile to You," "How Many?" and this reviewer's favorite mournful pick, "That's What I Tell My Heart." The rockabilly roots that define this era of music are evidenced in the selection "Hey Babe." Once more, Pete Hodgson comes pretty close to channeling the spirit of Jerry Lee Lewis in the track "How Come You Do Me."
