Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars THIS CD ROCKS!!!.......2004-01-18

4 out of 5 stars Know your facts before you write..........2004-01-07

I just had to drop in on this and clear up some misinformation about a good band. Mark Pierson's review is inaccurate. BOA covers Tommy Bolin songs on this album and Pierson notes that Tommy Bolin is the former T-Rex member. WRONG. Pierson is thinking of the late Marc Bolin, who founded and headed the glam rock band T-Rex. Marc was British. Tommy Bolin, who also is passed away, was an American and former lead guitartist of both the James Gang (took Joe Walsh's place) and Deep Purple (took Ritchie Blackmore's place). He was an amazing guitar player and remember fondly by longtime Purple fans.

That being said, Black Oak Arkansas is a great southern boogie band and this CD is testimony to their perserverence. I prefer the original versions of these songs, but that's just my taste. There's nothing wrong with this package and if you like downhome country-fried rock with smoking guitar riffs... you'll like this just fine.

5 out of 5 stars THIS CD SMOKES!!!!!!!.......2003-03-19

Wow. This is by far the best album BOA has put out. The guitar playing of Rocky Athis has really set the band on fire. Jim Dandy is as ggod as ever and the remakes of the old tunes blow the originals away. I really enjoyed the guitar work on "post toastee" the old T-Rex/Tommy Bolin (Johnny's brother) song. Anybody who doesn't like this album doesn't know a thing about Southern rock!!!

4 out of 5 stars Musta Been Stoned.........2002-08-12

Previous reviewers and fans of the earlier incarnation of BOA must have been really stoned when listening to those earlier albums. With the exception of Tommy Aldridge the musicianship was atrocious and the songs were pure formula.
This one flat out rocks thanks to the guitar wizardry of Rocky Athas. He has to be one of the top guitarist on the planet and the best one Black Oak has EVER had. True Johnny Bolin is no Tommy Aldridge, but he holds his own. As far as Jim Dandy's voice, its still there and in fine form. The updated versions of the old classics simply blow away the originals thanks to Athas's guitar.
This is a new BOA, a new millenium Southern Rock band with an emphasis on the "rock". Pull out you worn lp of "Keep The Faith" or "If An Angel Came", shake the seeds away and realize how unispired and dated they sound.
Pick up the "Hot & Nasty: Best Of" for more than your fill of the 70's version of this band.
