Customer Reviews:
simple and elegant sorrow.......2004-08-18
Imagine a more folky (although I use the term in it's broadest sense) heartfelt and plaintive Badly Drawn Boy and you'll come close to the sound. Especially on December, which is as close to upbeat as this album gets. Even the happiest sounding of songs are mostly cloaked in sadness when you listen to the lyrics.
Great songs run through the album, mostly leading with just with Brendan on vocals and an acoustic guitar in hand. Occasional burst of horns and piano add to the atmosphere. The title track, Margrett, December and Now standout for me.
Broken hearts will find a place to go here.
Heartbreak Made Beautiful.......2003-01-03
Brendan Gamble has created a beautiful and honest album filled with so much heart and feeling, that at times it feels like you're snooping through his private journal, not listening to an album made for public listening. It would be embarrassing if it were not so beautifully executed. Gamble's voice, a simple yet fitting vehicle for his thoughtful lyrics, is brought to life by quietly balanced acoustic instrumentation and horn flourishes. I certainly hope Heartless Moon was as theraputic for him to make as it is heartbreakingly gorgeous to listen to.
With Heart.......2002-12-19
This solo album of heartachingly beautifully crafted songs tell the story of love gone away: The disbelief, the lonliness, the anger and hurt, the sadness, and finally - the light of recovery. Brendan Gamble is a stunningly talented musician from the former band, The Moon 7 Times. Curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and a friend, and listen to this one - and bring the Kleenex.
