Instrumental & experimental. The debut album from Monkeysoop is like Joe Satriani meets John McLaughlin. It's a must have for any music fan.
Customer Reviews:
Did Dave B. even listen to the CD?.......2005-09-12
I picked up the Monkeysoop CD here in St. Louis a few months ago and here's the lowdown:
Track #1 - Bugwartz - Cool intro piece. Sets the tone that this music is going to be different.
Track #2 - Theory X - Straight forward metal/rock groove. Lots of energy.
Track #3 - Monkeysoop - Very awesome flipped out guitar work! A strong repetitive bass line supports unique guitar assault with awesome harmonies and arpeggios. One of my favorite tracks.
Track #4 - Fairdale - Acoustic guitar melody, pretty
Track #5 - Vagrancy - Very moody, eerie, hypnotic - great for possible sampling and vocals?
Track #6 - Hellgrimm - Another of my favorites. A fun ride with a bizarre Halloween intro. This song does some nice transitions throughout.
Track #7 - Kendall - Another acoustic guitar melody. I read on their website that this was written for the guitarist's brother - bravo, man. Beautiful piece.
Track # 8 - Of the Dawn - Freeform guitar work. Again, surprising guitar stuff.
Track # 9 - Catio - Very different - very surprising with the trumpet in there, very happy, very catchy.
Track # 10 - Nightcap - very cool song overall, another favorite of mine. Nice drum work.
Track # 11 - Fingered - My hats off to the guitarist - whatever he's doing, it sounds great!
Track # 12 - Despues de Amor - I don't know what it means, but this song had a lot of feeling, another complete shift from the rest of the CD. A great way to end the CD.
If you like experimental music minus vocals, you need to listen to this CD.
don't mean to be critical but . . . .......2005-09-02
the guitar work here is not that stellar. In fact, these songs are very simple licks repeated over and over. There is some tweaking on some of the tracks with basic shaping tools but that effort is quite pedestrian as well. These guys have a long, long way to go before they begin to approach the musical talent of, say, a Buckethead. MY monkeysoop CD is for sale; make an offer.
These guys are awesome!.......2004-08-09
I really liked the debut 'Monkeysoop' album. It's original, it's got brilliant musical moments. The guitar work on tracks 3, 4, and 10 are really amazing. It's all instrumental music that puts you into different worlds - it's great background music for studying, working, and driving. Go to the website - monkeysoop.com. I also found out these guys are up for Grammy consideration - way to go! Definitely worth the investment
Guitarist from hell killed the vocalist.......2004-08-02
This album's got everything except vocals. Very creative and innovative guitar work. Excellent album. I give it four stars because there were no vocals. There's a touch of all kinds of musical styles on this album. If you like kick-ass instrumental music, I highly recommend this.
