5 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL MUSIC BY A TALENTED ARTIST.......2007-05-15

I just bought this CD as a promo with all the songs included on Ebay for 99 cents. It pays to shop! The album even with two filler numbers has some of Eric's most beautiful songs on it. "I Was Born To Love You" and "I Wanna Take Forever Tonight" are my favorites. Other people put down the album as too MOR but in a few years, this CD will become highly desireable just as Eric's 1985 album has done so. With today's artists having only one hit song on their CD albums, it's refreshing to hear this CD by Eric which is enjoyable and relaxing. Buy it now before it goes completely out of print, folks.

1 out of 5 stars major disappointment.......2006-04-27

A fan of Eric Carmen since 1972, this long awaited album was a major disappointment for me.

The album is a collection of schmaltzy and boring songs which do not merit comparison to earlier ballads such as 'Don't Wanna Say Goodbye', 'Overnight Sensation', 'All By Myself' and 'Make me Lose Control'. The paucity of up-tempo stuff on the album means lack of musical contrast.

For me, none of the songs here were memorable in the way that you could never forget the eloquence an power of 'All by Myself', even after a single listen. The tempo of this album remained humdrum throughout, without any of the familiar crescendos, pianissimos, and vocal harmonies worked into lush orchestrations.

This collection of songs was crippled, I suspect, by Ricky having been given a shoestring budget to work on. Although 'Hungry Eyes' was not penned by him, he succeeded in making it his own through the arrangements and his delivery.

By contrast, none of the songs in this album possessed the style, beauty, power, and dramatic flow which for me characterises Carmen's best works, as most of the material was weak and insipid.

I have all Carmen's albums since the Raspberries, and most of these remain prized possessions (especially the Raspberries album with the scratch and sniff sticker). I snapped this album up when stumbled across this on a visit to Singapore, but it survived two passes on my platter before making its way rapidly to the charity shop.

I feel sad to trash an Eric Carmen album in such a way, but I found little to like. This album is only for the diehard Carmen fan, and even that is at a push.

5 out of 5 stars Music taste is really personal.......2006-01-07

I am pretty surprised by the diversed reviews on this CD. Some gave 5 stars and some just 1. I would attribute this to the personal difference in music taste of individuals.

To me, this is a 5 stars although it still lacks the heights of his heydays ("All My Myself" days, which is 6 stars). Eric's talents are again well demonstronstrated in the CD and I found all the tracks pretty listenable.

In fact, I would really like to see more new releases from him. This CD was first (don't know why) released in Japan in 1998 and that's where I got my copy. It was then issued in the States in year 2000. Anyhow, it was 15 years between albums and today is in year 2006. Another 8 years have elapsed.
It just makes me wonder if he has already retired.

This faithful fan here is still anticipating.

1 out of 5 stars I wanted my money back............2004-06-29

In all the years I've been buying albums and CD's, this is the first time I felt like returning a CD to get my money back! This album has to be the worst of Eric Carmen. He was so good in the 70's and 80's but he's definitely "lost it" since then. Track after track of drivelly AC mess. Cover songs, poorly done. And the original stuff sounds at times like he copied Sade's arrangements. OH THE PAIN!! I was truly speechless as I listened. I had to force myself to keep from turning off the CD player. I felt ripped off, as a consumer and as a former Eric Carmen fan. If you liked Eric Carmen's stuff from the past, I urge you to buy the old works and leave the newer stuff where it belongs... in the warehouse of oblivion.
