Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars California, here we come.......2004-11-02

As Elephant 6 bands go, it's pretty crowd-friendly. Dressy Bessy's staple seems to be airy, sweet 60s'-style pop with some great hooks and a fun little melody, and their "California EP" doesn't disappoint. The sound is simple, spiced up with a bit of sonic experimentation.

It opens with the title track, a bouncy little pop tune as light and sweet as cotton candy, but it's followed by the fuzzier, crunchier "Some Better Days" and summery "Super Everything." It's back to bouncy pop in "Hangout Wonderful," and then back to sonic jangle in the grittier "In the Morning."

In a way, "California EP" sounds like a teenage girl's summer vacation -- bright, carefree and warm. Even the songs -- stuff about putting flowers in your hair -- sound chipper and fun; even the angstier numbers like "In the Morning" aren't too heavy as pop music goes.

Jangly and crunchy guitars form the basis of the music -- bouncy, flexible and amusing. Some studio quirks and fuzz add to the sound, as do cheerful vocals by Tammy Ealom, who sounds like a popster timewarped in from the sixties, as do songs like, "Can we go there- this summer?/Singin' ah ah la la la la/Where's my sunshine/all are free and friendly in California."

Summery frolics in the middle of fall -- Dressy Bessy has that covered in the "California EP." It's simple sunny pop, fun if not terribly complex.

5 out of 5 stars excellent, short and sweet cd.......2001-11-29

I heard some music in the movie "But im a cheerleader" and decided to go all out and find out more information on these great groups, after searching the UK i had no luck, thank God for The USA, i had to order further afield but it was well worth it. This is a great CD and i also recommend Go Sailor and April March if you like this CD.
