Heartbreaking and soul-saving . . ........2002-11-07
Desert Island Top 5 . . . and as Chris has a new CD out (Silver Line), his music is now occupying 4 of those spaces. My first awareness of Chris Mills came through the 5 Years of Bloodshot CD (Last to Know, duet with Deanna Vargona), and my only regret is that I hadn't heard of him sooner. He's one of those rare artists where you almost feel conflicted when you listen to him, because a part just wants to be absolutely still, absorbing the healing balm that is his voice, while the other part is completely alert to the poetry of his lyrics. And yes, as others (and their wives) have pointed out, he's kinda fun to look at as well.
I'm Melissa Ethridge's baby.......2000-11-11
1st: Naperville, IL is a land of miscreants and/or small-minded fascists. That fact invalidates the previous review. 2nd: Kiss It Good-bye is remarkable. It is lovable. It is painful and beautiful and noisy and angry and afraid and sweet as butter and even smells nice. It is the aural equivalent of eating 5 hot glazed Krispy Kreme donuts in rapid-fire succession. Buy this cd. My wife thinks Mr. Mills is cute, too.
what you could have done with the money.......2000-10-18
Have you heard the new Melissa Ethridge CD by Chris Mills? If way over-the-top, unbelievable and overly dramatic is for you then perhaps you would like this. In which case you should buy records by Creed, Live and Hootie.
The Best Alt-Country Release This Year?.......2000-10-10
This new disc from Chris Mills easily makes my top 10 list of the year 2000. This is just great music. From the outstanding opening track "Brand New Day", to the beautiful songs like "Watch Chain", "Crooked Vein", "Fall" and "Signal/Noise", this is a strong disc from start to finish.
These guys come across as some distant cousin to Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco and as a great grandchild of Townes Van Zandt. This is great music, and it's a shame that Mills doesn't get the credit he deserves for writing some of the best music out there today.
Highly recommened for fans of the genre. I'd place it right next to the new Slobberbone disc "Everything You Thought was Right was Wrong Today" as one of the best of the year.
