Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the best rock bands around today.......2005-11-23

Bad Wizard rocks and rocks hard! None of these other "retro rock revival" groups can even come close. Except perhaps for Silvertide who rocks hard as well. However, Silvertide's music is much more hook-laden with catchy, radio-friendly songs. Bad Wizard, on the other hand, is not very radio friendly. Their songs are loud and fast with loads of heavy guitar riffs and wicked solos. They are a rather hard group to pidgeonhole. They have the energy of a punk band, the volume and speed of a metal band, but the song styles and simplicity of a hard rock band. Many people compare them to groups like The Stooges and MC5, and it's easy to see where those comparisons come from. They also bring to mind Motorhead and AC/DC, and the lead singer sort of reminds me of Leslie West from Mountain.

However, comparisons are not important, the music is what's important. Bad Wizard's #1 Tonite! is an excellent, no-holds-barred, butt-kicking hard rock album. It will probably make you want to go out and buy the group's other two albums, Free and Easy and Sophisticated Mouth. The only complaint that could possibly be made against this CD is that it is quite short. Bad Wizard subscribes to the Ramones mentality of rocking hard, rocking fast and then getting the heck out. You will find that their albums are usually less than 30 minutes. On the upside, that means that they are all killer and no filler.

If you're a rock and roll lover who pretty much hates today's music scene, check out Bad Wizard. This album, #1 Tonite is a great place to introduce yourself to one of the best rock bands in the country.

4 out of 5 stars Music To Get Speeding Tickets By!.......2005-09-28

Loud, fast, and above all unapologetic would be the only way to explain Bad Wizard's musical assault. These guys are the real deal from Athens GA - but you'd swear they shared the stage with Rob Tyner of The MC5 in Detroit's Rock-n-Roll Punk Boogie heyday.

Yeah this disc comes in at just under 30 minutes and that's all you need. Plainly said, here's no filler here folks. Just one blazing cut after another designed to make mincemeat out of your gas pedal. Deafening guitar work and a furious rhythm section to back it up is the chemistry within, combined with a singer that gargles with razorblades and strychnine. It's anything but pretty, but you're happy about it whilst raising your fist and rejoicing.
Rock and Roll ain't dead kidz... Bad Wizard has surely seen to that!

If you like tunes that ROAR faster than a beat up '69 Camarro with mag wheels, highjackers and dice in the window pick this puppy up and make sure you buy a radar detector to go with it. If you play this one in your ride - BEWARE - you're gonna have to cough up some serious $$$ for insurance premiums and that's a promise!

5 out of 5 stars Some of the only real rock out there..........2005-06-14

I saw these guys live about a year ago, and this record lives up to their past two. The fact that the album clocks in at under 30 minutes it just fine. I'd rather see a strong album all the way through than see a band force material just to make their album longer.

If you haven't yet, check these guys out. And buy their stuff to support them. They damned well deserve it.

4 out of 5 stars Don't be afraid, it's only rock and roll.......2004-12-28

This album is short, fast and fun. They bring the rock from the get go and they don't stop bringing it. It clocks in just under 30 minutes, so be warned. But, be prepared. You just might want to go out and buy a Trans Am after you get done with this one. And that ain't half bad.

4 out of 5 stars Balls To The Wall, Hard Rockin' Quality, But Not Quantity.......2004-10-28

This album has the fury of the MC5 blended with an "Over The Top" metal edge (Motorhead); and this time around throw in a few Thin Lizzy-ish twin guitar melodies for good measure. Imagine a gravel-throated Iggy fronting Motorhead with several songs written by Phil Lynott...I can't, but just imagine it okay? (As a side note, anyone old enough to remember the band Moby Grape and their classic song "Omaha", I hear a little bit of that influence on this album also). Flat out blows away corporate pretender bands like Von Bondies, Mooney Suzuki & The Hives. Your mommy might let you listen to those cds, but she'll tell you to turn this one way down or throw it away.
These guys & gals are obviously heavily influenced by 60's & 70's Motor City Rock as well as 70's hard rockers like Thin Lizzy; but they are also into 30 minute long albums. Hence the 4 instead of 5 star review. In the days where the medium can hold 70 minutes of music and cost a couple hours pay for most fans, buyers deserve more for their money than an EPs worth of material.
My advise is to go the used route and save some cash. Shame on you BW for no live or bonus tracks.
