Customer Reviews:
More Brassy.......2004-04-22
Brassy was a fresh breath of speed and hiphop from two years ago. They had the look of Elastica and had their own distinct sound. Muffin Spencer actually moved to Manchester almost fifteen years ago, and sometime in the heyday of Britpop she found some liked minded conspirators. Whereas the first record was high-speed and high-energy, this record seems more relaxed and funkier. Maybe it is a result of playing live for a few years. The lyrics are really about much, like most early rap records, it is all about the party and getting it started. The beats are more innovative. There are some weird musical interludes that make me wonder where they stole that sample. "Turn This Thing Up" could be a song on their first album. This is a good party record. I am not sure who listens to this type of music, but if people hear it, they are going to like it.
Pretty good effort, really high energy!.......2003-12-22
Picture it....Saturday afternoon, your house. As you gaze around the room you see that housework needs to be done, and you haven't the energy to pick yourself up! Enter Brassy.
I must admit that while this CD is a high energy 'dance' party, it offers move than that. I picked this one up with one single in mind, "Where did you get that funk?" and I've learned to enjoy the rest of the songs as well.
The biggest track that everyone I know knows about is the remix using "work it out", but the CD fleshes out to be about a C+ average.
My opinion, buy the CD (get it used if ya' can) and pick your favorite few tracks to burn to a mix CD. I'll bet after a few listens, you'll be adding Brassy to your heavy CD rotation in your vehicle!
Brassy KICKS!.......2003-08-29
If you're not familiar with Muffin Spencer's rough, tough kickin' dance music you need some time for "Gettin Wise."
She's "every" strong woman gives new meaning to the words self esteme. The backing vocals and scratching are a blast.
This album is more fleshed out than "Work it Out." You feel like you're getting more for your $$.
