The King of Rock & Roll recorded music for every occasion and has been packaged in every shape and size imaginable. This collection is a particularly generous overview (25 tracks!) of his many Christmas recordings and includes four previously unreleased alternate takes. Guests include the Jordinaires and the Imperial Quartet. Elvis didn't always receive the most supportive musical backing, but the musical fluff that sabotaged much of his work doesn't weigh down these tracks. His skill as a vocalist is in evidence on such tracks as "Silver Bells," "O Come All Ye Faithful," and "The First Noel." If you were to pick one Christmas Elvis release, this would be a wise choice. --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
Good Elvis Collection.......2007-01-18
My wife is the Elvis fan, but even I enjoyed listening to most of the Christmas songs presented on this album. A couple songs were a little too "Bluesy" for me.
I'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year........2006-11-27
This CD features all the Christmas songs Elvis ever recorded. It includes the songs he recorded for his 1957 Christmas album, the songs from his 1971 Christmas album and the 1966 single "If Every Day Was Like Christmas". There are also four alternate takes of songs from his 1971 Christmas album. All of Elvis' Christmas recordings are great, so I highly recommend this CD.
The Cat was very Versatile.......2006-01-07
it ain't Christmas Music for me without Elvis around. He is vastly Underrated on so many levels. He was the truth&He could do so many styles of Music¬ miss a beat. This Compilation fully captures His Greatness at Christmas time.I can listen to this Album year round.Props&RIP To Elvis.
The most complete Elvis Christmas compilation!.......2005-12-29
Elvis recorded 20 Christmas songs during his career. All 20 songs are on this CD in addition to 4 alternate takes, making this the most comprehensive Elvis Christmas collection available!
The highlights of this collection are the first 8 songs along with the alternate version of "I'll Be Home On Christmas Day", (which I like better than the original release - it has a more of an R&B feel to it) and the final selection, "Silent Night." Most of these songs were recorded for the original Elvis Christmas album released in 1957, with the title track being recorded and released as a single in 1966. Elvis is in top form on these songs and several of them have become Christmas classics still receiving radio play 50 years after they were recorded!
The rest of the songs were recorded for his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album. While they are good, they are not in the same class as the earlier recordings. Elvis' voice seems strained on a few songs and in general the material is not as strong as his earlier recordings. But still this collection is a must for Elvis and Christmas music fans! Highly recommended!
