Customer Reviews:
Absolutely marvelous.......2003-10-27
Its been a rare experience that there is a cd that I listen to all the way though time and time again. This is one of them. Anywhere I go Nat's music travels with me. Excellent production, great lyrics, and a passion for the work comes through in every track. Not to mention a voice that won't stop. Looking forward to the next cd with great anticipation.
Finally SOME REAL Soul! Original, sweet and funkay.......2003-06-13
I was offered and invitation by a friend to check out a site for Natalie Brown and these days when someone says a vocalist is amazing I pretty much don't believe them. When my friend told me about this Independent R&B artist I kinda put it off at first because I am so sick of hearing the same bland pseudo-R&B over and over again on the radio. I am sorry I put it off for so long! I listened to some clips from Miss. Brown and I was hypnotized. I heard the song "In My Dreams" and literally I have not been moved by a voice in a LONG LONG time, but that song had me hooked! Her voice is really beautiful, but it is also a sweet, soulful kind of voice that has so much emotion and feeling that you feel like you know her when she sings. It's like every word is just for you and the honesty blew me away. I picked up a copy of the album and every song is great, plus SHE WROTE the songs. I can't believe I haven't heard of her before and that this album is from 2000. I am really looking forward to Miss. Brown's new album and more of the sweet soul that today's music scene is missing so bad. If you are sick of played out beats, bland voices with no soul and lyrics that mean nothing... then you MUST buy this album and let the healing and sweetness take over! I am HOOKED by that voice! I also love her hair, just had to mention that! Thank god SHE IS NOT another copycat blonde haired wanna be pseudo-R&B singer clone. Natalie Brown IS FO SHO the real deal: original, sweet and funkay! SWEET SOUL IS BACK!
brown eyed girl with blue eyed soul.......2003-06-07
natalie brown is the bomb! if you ever thought white girls were not gritty or soulful, check her out. she will prove you wrong. she is very much different than them other ladies like J. Lo or Mariah- her songs are very tight and meaningful and funky. good mix of funked up jams and inspirational ballads.
"In Your Arms Again", "In My Dreams", "Let The Candle Burn".......2001-07-27
As an avid collector of pop and R&B music, I can honestly say that Ms. Natalie Brown is vocally up to par with the vast majority of pop/R&B singers currently receiving airplay. To get an initial idea of what the music on her debut album offers, simply imagine what an `all grown-up' version of current Bad Boy recording artists, Dream would sound like - if you're a fan of Dream and you're ready for some inspiring and emotional lyrics, check out Natalie Brown.
`Let The Candle Burn' is clearly a winner as far as independent releases are concerned, blessed with consistent production, insightfully honest songwriting, and Ms. Brown's timid, yet beautiful voice. Each of the 13 tracks on this album were co-written by Ms. Brown along with her producer, Jeremy Rwakaara. Some of the songs, like "In My Dreams" impressed me right away, while others such as "Runaway" had to grow on me. Here are the highlights in my humble opinion:
"In Your Arms Again" is by far my favorite song on the album; it's on this ballad that Natalie delivers her most powerful vocal performance. Next in line would have to be "In My Dreams", a sad, sincere ballad that I wish could have lasted a bit longer.
Of course I can't forget "Let The Candle Burn"; it has a wonderfully seductive vibe to it, and Natalie's background vocals here are luscious. "You Pierced My Soul" rounds out my top four favorites - it's a breezily sweet mid-tempo song that for me, evokes images of rolling green hills on a bright sunny day.
Other songs I should mention are "Runaway", the lyrically powerful "Wind At My Back" (which continues to grow on me as I write this), and the groovaliciously R&B "Love Has Finally Called My Name". The wild card on this album would have to be "Confused"; it has an acoustic `feel good' vibrancy that I'm sure some people will dig.
My only gripe (and yes, there's always at least one) is that I think the music on this album played it a little too safe, especially considering Natalie's image, which I consider to be on the funkier side of the pop/R&B spectrum. I sincerely hope that on the next album, she gives us more to dance to, cuz I just know she can do it...
Well, thanks for reading!
