Album Description
The stuff of longplaying-legends and vinyl-myths, the Gurus waxed two stunning singles for United Artists Records in 1966, both 45's in sky high-demand within the haunted worlds of garage and psych collectors worldwide. And here's where it gets really interesting...a full-length Gurus' album was also recorded, designed, and advertised for release in early 1967, but was ultimately shelved before its issue for reasons unknown...At the top of psych-lovers' wish lists everywhere, we're proud to announce that Sundazed has researched, excavated, and resurrected the entire unissued Gurus' project from the vaults of EMI/United Artists, in all of it's psychedelic, raga-infused glory...another Sundazed first!

Customer Reviews:
Gurus - 'The Gurus Are Hear!' (Sundazed).......2007-02-16
Another compilation of some obscure / never-heard-of band's repertoire put out on the Sundazed label. I actually remember this band, barely. The Gurus are said to be one of THE first bands ever to fuse psychedelia with Middle Eastern sounds. Mission accomplished. I guess The Gurus never put out more than just two 7" 45's in 1966-67. This seventeen track compilation is their sole full-length release of every tune they ever recorded. It's great for collectors, psych enthusiasts, etc. Tunes here that had me playing this CD over a few times are "Come Girl", "Roads To Nowhere", the tripping "Blue Snow Night", their odd cover of "Louie Louie", and the fuzz guitar rocker "Everyone's Got To Be Alone Sometime". Might possibly appeal to other unknowns like Misty Wizard, Tea Company, Truth and Mongrels. A nice pick.
all good, cept for the pop tunes!.......2004-04-07
This cd basically rocks from start to finish but there are a couple of throwaways. The ones that aren't strong are the more polished mainstream pop efforts which don't bare much of a resemblance to their sound. But otherwise this band had a very innovative and interesting early psychedelic sound, which occasionally reminds me of the music machine. Their sound is characterized by banging bongos, fuzzed out guitar solos, Yelping vocals, strange middle-eastern instruments, and a hypnotizing overall vibe. THis is a nice breath of fresh air for all you garage/psych heads that have already bought everything else from 66-69. enjoy
