5 out of 5 stars Should top Amazon's list of Big Beat Essentials..........2005-08-05

With a decent collection of the so called fundamentals of big beat (crystal meth, aphex, chemical brothers...) I can honestly say that Shoot the Boss outstrips all competitors as far as straight danceable beat making is concerned. One of the first I have seen to cmobine electronic with regae funk, Monkey Mafia creates rhythms that range from dance club hits to boulevard cruisin grooves.
Tracks that top the list for me are "Healing of the Nation," which holds an amazing beat that makes you think of a track that the Gorillaz were striving to reach but never quite achieved.
"Blow the Whole Joint Up" is a pulse pounding track that keeps you shakin your butt throughout its entirety, and is one of the few songs that you can actually get into on Amazon's 30 sec sound clips.
Other great tracks include "Lion in the Hall" and "Work Mi Body."
BUT... the absolute, hands down, best track on the disc is the first, "Make Jah Music." This track defines what a big-beat track should sound like. Riding an incredible heavy bass it loop that is good enough to hold a 4 minute track on its own, the song is soon accompanied by a fiddle and bite that sounds somewhat similar to the noises made in Prodigy's "breathe." HOnestly, the CD would still be at least four stars and worth a buy if every other song was miserable, this track is just that good. Just be sure that on the first listen, its with a good, loud sound system, then sit back and wait for your friends to praise you for finding this amazing unspoken electronic gem.

5 out of 5 stars Carter does it again.......2001-05-26

This is a great tripped out dub/ragga/bigbeat/whatever album. Blistering bass beats, wicked vocals.

Lion in the Hall is monster. As are Jah Music, Steppa's Ball and Ward 10.

Carter really needs to get that new album out.

5 out of 5 stars Work Your Body..........2000-11-28

A stunningly brilliant combination of electonica, crunching big beat and tripped out dub. A great disc for the car, the dancefloor or for just chilling at home. Jon Carter's ability to mix so many different styles and vibes successfully must be heard to be believed. If you dig 'Death in Vegas', 'Crystal Method', 'Chemical Brothers' or just about any of the groovier downtempo or heavy dancehall reggae, check this one out.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Big Beat CD.......2000-04-19

No CD in my collection gets me moving like this one. I recommend it to anyone interested in big beat, electronica, etc. . . Great diversity of rhythms and emotions. Simply terrific from start to finish.
