Customer Reviews:
a curiosity for Stiff Little Fingers fans.......2003-02-28
This was Jake Burns' band from 1983 to 1988. Stiff Little Fingers had broken up in 1982, and if you've ever heard Now Then, you'll see the direction Jake was taking. Excessively glossy, radio-friendly pop songs about relationships, country, and growing older. Fans of SLF's punk heyday will undoubtedly cringe at the abundance of saxophones, female backup singers, and synth effects. This was the 80's after all. But even through the layers of gloss and dated periphery accompaniment, you can still enjoy the trademark Jake Burns songwriting that has always seen him through, no matter what band he's in at the moment.
Tracks 1 thru 6 compose really the only released material by the band, which were 3 different singles. Tracks 7 thru 16 are all BBC Radio sessions with different lineups of the band, thus the repetition of certain songs. Track 17 is a 13 minute interview conducted especially for this compilation release.
