5 out of 5 stars Wonderful....overally!.......2005-02-26

Anggun.....a very wonderful singer. She is a gift and one of the greatest artist in the planet. We both are from Indonesia and I'm very proud of her-as an Indonesian-cause she is truly wonderful and no singer is quite like her in here. She brings along a truly new, fresh and wonderful music...that I can really enjoy to.Anggun should be recognized in the US...for her wonderful music. It's a shame people like Simple Plan and all other 'straight-candy-punk-pop-rock' bands out there.I'm truly inspired by her mesmerizing music and I wish I could make a beautiful music at least as well as she does.I want to be a singer too...and I'm gonna be the second Indonesian singer that will rock music scene. So,world, one day you'll hear, know me ,my name,my music .Just remember this name :Fajar and you will see me make albums in the future.I promise I'll be there on 2006 or 2007!.See ya and to Anggun, keep making wonderful music!!!

(FAVE SONGS : The entire songs of 'Snow On The Sahara' and the first 8 tracks of 'Chrysalis' plus 'Broken Dream...I haven't bought "Open Hearts" and looking forward to buying that!)

5 out of 5 stars Just beautiful beyond words.......2004-10-06

Out of the blue came a surprisingly original new sound from a rare entity that brings along truly original and rich music, something that has become a sad rarity in the excessively corporate arena these days. This 1998 debut from Indonesian singer Anggun entitled "Snow On The Sahara" is one of the most delightful and most exotic sounding albums to have ever been released in U.S. stores. As I write this review, this is the only album that I'm aware of that she has released in the United States and this is a sad thing. This CD is a diamond in the rough waiting to be found. The title track just blew me away when I first heard it back in the spring and summer of 1998 and although I loved it then when I saw the video in VH-1 in 1998, the song seemingly vanished from the airwaves in the U.S. for a long time before I finally rediscovered this in 2003, five full years late, and when I finally bought it, even as I loved the title track, I was totally blown away by the rest of this album.

The title track alone is what forever etched Anggun into my memory cells but my world was virtually turned upside down by the other tracks on this album.

5 out of 5 stars Impartial but accurate.......2002-12-29

I love anggun
she has, with her music, made me fall in love with her music and what her voice evokes in me. this is the kind of music i want to hear all the time i can honestly say this is one of my all time favorite cd's there are songs on this cd if done by a lesser artist(at least in my opinion) would [not be the same] but her voice can salvage these unfortunate songs.I can't sing enough praises for her just hoping she gets the exposure she deserves so she can be around for a long time to make music for me,that's right for me...I am selfishly a devoted fan who is impartial to good music choice tracks:
snow on the sahara
rose in the wind
on the breath of an angel
memory of tour shores
by the moon
life on mars
valparaiso

all of them!

5 out of 5 stars ANGGUN'S DEBUT: TITLES, RELEASES & CONTENTS.......2001-08-17

Anggun's international debut album comes in several album titles and release versions, with some differences in contents. A run down: [...]

FRENCH: #(F1). AU NOM DE LA LUNE, French release (France), 16 tracks (11 songs + 5 fillers). #(F2). AU NOM DE LA LUNE, French international release (la Francophonie), 16 tracks (11 songs + 5 fillers). #(F3). ANGGUN, French international release, 16 tracks (11 songs + 5 fillers), as currently listed in Sony Music's Pan European catalogue..... All 3 French version releases have exactly the same contents. They include La Memoire des Rochers (original song of Memory of Your Shores), and do not include Life on Mars. The French version (any of above 3 releases) is the original version. The poetical romanticism of the lyrics is at its most natural in French. Five tracks (Le Départ, Gita, Blanca, Pluies, Ceria) are not full songs but "fillers" (interludes, short music to bridge between songs). The effects of these fillers are tangible if you listen to this album from beginning to end. They make the transition between songs better, they add to the overall color of this rich album, and they make the album more well-rounded.

ENGLISH - REGULAR: #(E1). ANGGUN, international release, 16 tracks (12 songs + 4 fillers). #(E2). SNOW ON THE SAHARA, international release, 16 tracks (12 songs + 4 fillers)..... These 2 versions have exactly the same contents. They contain the same track-set as the French version (Memory of Your Shores and fillers included), except that ending-filler Ceria is omitted and song Life on Mars added.

ENGLISH - 'DIFFERENT': #(E3). ANGGUN, Indonesian/Malaysian release, 16 tracks (12 songs + 4 fillers)..... Same as (E1/E2), except By the Moon is sung in French (titled Au Nom De La Lune), and A Rose in the Wind is sung in Indonesian/Malay (titled Kembali).

ENGLISH - 'FAT': #(E4). ANGGUN, Japanese release, 19 tracks (15 songs + 4 fillers)..... Contains all the tracks in (E1/E2) plus 3 additions: French versions of 3 of the songs. Thus there are 3 double songs here, in English and French -- Snow On The Sahara/La Neige au Sahara, A Rose in the Wind/La Rose des Vents, Dream of Me/De Soleil et d'Ombres. (Note: if I get it correctly, previously Sony Music Japan also marketed a 16 track version titled "Anggun.")

ENGLISH - 'SLIM': #(E5). SNOW ON THE SAHARA, US release, 11 tracks (11 songs, no fillers except Blanca which becomes part of the song Valparaiso here)..... Contains 11 out of the 12 songs in (E1/E2), Memory of Your Shores is omitted. If you're in the US, this one costs the least -- but also contains the least.
