Best Band You've Never Heard Of.......2005-06-27
I think some illegitimate Samples fans have been writing reviews, because there is NOTHING NOT TO LIKE about this CD. Never boring, always inspiring, the Samples and Mr. Sean Kelly are in expectedly fine form with Black & White. Lollipop is not only infectious, but rather an aphrodesiac for us swooning females-gentlemen, take note. Sean, Dan, Bill, Karl, and Jared are the quintessential Samples, their harmonies and angelic guitar and keyboard work, along with the still enchanting and soulful vocals of Sean are still as pleasing as the old standards like Did You Ever Look So Nice or Little Silver Ring. I Can Feel You is a lovely ballad, Warm & Sunny is feeling good put to music. If you're a Samples fan, you want this. If you're oblivious, get a clue- the Samples are full of heart, and although listening to this album is not as exciting as seeing the band live, it is well worth a space in YOUR heart. Since when is fun, melodious harmony a bad thing?
I just don't know.........2005-01-21
Well.. crap. I love you guys! but this album.. i don't know. I WANT to love it! I DO! But common.. "i wanna lick you like a lollipop.. i wanna eat you like a peach.. i wanna drink you like a waterfall, i wanna kiss you on your beach?" na na na na na na na.. not exactly your most profound work. It may be time to take it back to the drawingboard. I know.. "it's a non-sensical" song.. and you're right.. it is fun, and ridiculously catchy.. but between your last album and this one.. things broke down. Anyway.. i just wanted to let you know.. i'm here for you.. i'll always buy your albums.. ESPECIALLY your apache efforts because i want to keep hearing new things from you. Anyway. I'm off to buy the "very best of" album and the "live in Colorado" I'm keeping my fingers crossed! =)
dont give up.......2004-09-24
If you are new to the Samples DONT START WITH THIS ALBUM. Good or not I don't feel this offers a good ,uh, sample of their work. I have been listening to the samples for ten years and I LOVE them. Go buy "The Samples" , "The last Drag" , and "No Room". You will not be disappointed.
put a fork in them indeed..........2004-09-01
Geez...I am so surprised by the number of positive reviews here. Either those giving this album 4 or 5 stars work for the band and are trying to offset the negative reviews or were smoking weed themselves when listening to the album. Let's face it folks...this album is just plain awful. I, like many of you, have been listening to the Samples for years and years (have every album) and always make sure I catch them when the band rolls through town every year or so. I too feel for Sean's tough luck over the years and am still amazed that the band never took off during the glory days of The Last Drag and Autopilot. But this horrible effort isn't going to get them anywhere either and instead will leave many of Sean's trusted fans wondering what the heck happened to that inspired, beautiful song writing. It's gonna take something really special from here on out to bring me back aboard the Samples bandwagon. Where's Andy, Al and Jeep when you need them? You're better than this Seanny Boy...
