Great College Band.......2006-04-29
Dillon Fence is one of the all-time great college bands. In the early 90's they were regulars at college bars and frat houses in the Southeastern United States. I fondly remember seeing them many times at such places as Ziggy's in Winston-Salem, The Brewery in Raleigh, and Cat's Cradle in Carrboro (Chapel Hill). They were going to be BIG but in the end did not want to sell-out to the big record companies (Atlantic). Lead singer Greg Humphrey's later confirmed this by forming the non-mainstream jazz-funk band Hobex (a very successful band in their own right).
This album, Rosemary, might be the best of Dillon Fence. It is pure jangly pop-rock at its finest.
Together with such bands as the Connells and the Veldt, Dillon Fence secured a place in 90's college band lore.
Great band from the early 90s made college so much fun!!.......1999-07-28
This is a must for any person that attended a south eastern school in the early 90s 90-95. It made all of the college parties a blast. Of course live was even better.
A Promising Start For A Band That Could Have Been Big..........1999-05-09
If you attended college in the Southeast in the early to mid 90s, chances are these guys rocked in a bar near your campus at some point. Their three albums basically form a soundtrack of my college days. I had the pleasure of seeing several of their shows and I'm still grieving the group's demise. I thought for sure they were going to be "HUGE". Oh well, at least they left behind some great music. This is a great poppy debut, although I personally prefer the fuzzier guitars on their other albums, "Outside In" and "Living Room Scene." If you get the chance, buy anything with Dillon Fence on it, you'll be pleasantly surprised...
