My Favorite Nils Album.......2007-02-05
This is my favorite Nils album. I had a tape of this for years and I played it all the time.
Then it was released as a CD and I got it right away.
Nils presents a fine collection of songs and plays them masterfully. "No Mercy" is a great song about a boxer. "Shine Silently" is a gorgeous song. "Baltimore", a Randy Neuman song, is a cry for help for his drug ravaged hometown. It's a 10 out of 10.
"Steal Away" is a great rocker, and "Kool Skool" is a great funky tune with great lyrics. Nils is a great songwriter and it really shows on this album, although he had help from others such as Lou Reed.
He's also a great guitar player with a very unique style.
It's hard to say which is my favorite tune on the album, Baltimore is so great. But I really like "I Found Her" about a girl whom he fell in love with, nursed back to health after heroin addiction, and then she left him. I don't know if it's about a real girl or not but it doesn't matter because it sounds so convincing, and it is a hauntingly beautiful song.
Bob Ezrin produced this great sounding record and it has a great sound.
Ezrin produced Pink Floyd's "The Wall", as well as Alice Cooper favorites like "Billion Dollar Babies".
This is simply one of my favorite records, and I'm pretty picky. But I know a winner when I hear one and I suggest you pick this up while it's still available. If you've never heard this record you're really missing out. Just get it, you won't be sorry.
A "must have" cd!.......2006-09-26
Who is Nils Lofgren? Nobody. He played guitar for an unknown named Neil Young. He played with a band called Grin. Oh, and this other unknown artist, Bruce Springsteen but who is Nils Lofgren? In my opinion, one of the most underrated singer/songwriter/guitar players to ever fly under the radar. Honestly, on this cd, he had co-writing help but it just made the cd stronger. Originally, when "Steal Away" hit the charts, it caught my ear because it was so different, so I bought the vinyl. Now that vinyl has gone the way of the dinosaur, I had to replace it with cd and it sounds as good as it did the 1st time I heard it. There's not a bad track on the cd and is still as edgey as I remember it being. Pick up a copy. Throw it in your cd player and prepare to be blown away!
