Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Typical of the late 70's I suppose.......2006-08-24

If they allowed 1/2 stars I'd give this album a 3.5 rating. Not quite deserving in my humble opinion of a 4 star rating.

Depending on what type/era of songs you like from Chris will determine how much you enjoy this album.

Well it definitely brings me back to the Carter era! It has that late 70's vibe throughout. Yes, It's got those Chris Rea trademarks throughout. When I rate this against some of his later material, I find his later output a bit more consistent and satisfying to my ears. This album to me sounds very dated verses an album such as "On the beach".

Took me awhile to warm upto this one. Although I do enjoy "Things Lovers should Do" , the funky guitar licks on "Dance (Don't Think)", and the riffs heard on "Cenotaph - Letter from Amsterdam". The title track and "Diamonds" are also very nice too. It was well worth what I paid for it, and I would gladly recommend it to the next person.

4 out of 5 stars Australian hit single only.......2001-11-12

This is the album which features 'Diamonds', released as a single in Australia in 1979, and did very well. The rest of the album is representative of the sound of music in 1979.
Note that none of his compilations include Diamonds, simply because it wasnt released as a single overseas. You guys dont know what you missed.

4 out of 5 stars not his best, but still darn good.......2001-09-01

Chris Rea took more control in his 2nd album, and he scores on most of the tracks, in spite of hints at disco. Whatever Happened to Benny Santini was a hard act to follow. The best tunes on this CD are Twisted Wheel, Cenotaph, Raincoat and a Rose and Diamonds. It is a must buy for die hard fans, but beginners should start with Santini, Road to Hell or New Light Through Old Windows.
