5 out of 5 stars bubblegum gloss and a coal-black heart.......2004-03-24

Tuscadero's "Pink Album" is one of those forgotten masterpieces of the 1990s. Call it "cutecore" or "kidcore" or whatever else you want. This is one of the greatest albums of all time, ranking up there with "Nevermind" or "OK Computer." Admittedly, it's unabashedly catchy, finger-popping punk rock for unhappy grrls in the middle of a quiet-riot, but it's still one of those rare albums you can listen to beginning to end, without ever punching the fast forward button. The subject matter is goofy as sin: candy, boardgames, Nancy Drew. But every single track is a testament to punk rock girls who wear black nail polish and bubblegum-lip gloss; it's all big Nirvana-esque guitar hooks and chirrupy vocals that will have you googling that punk rock girl you fell in love with in the summer of 1994.

Fave tracks: Love Sick, Mount Pleasant, and Hollywood Handsome. I've added these songs to so many mix tapes and CD compilations by this point that I should be paying royalties.

4 out of 5 stars we need more bands like these.......2000-06-10

I love Tuscadero--their lyrics, their sound, most of all the sense they're having a grand ol' time. I heard "Nancy Drew" years ago and still addictively sing along each time I hear it(every kid who's recently left home can relate). The lyrics are so amusing and the CD gets you in a great mood. How can you not appreciate "Hollywood Handsome"?(don't we 'all' know some of those "not much upstairs but what a hottie" types?) BUY THIS CD!

5 out of 5 stars Indie Pop At Its Finest.......2000-03-07

I first heard Tuscadero in the Spring of 1994 while living in Boston. A local college radio station happened to broadcast their song "Nancy Drew". By the time the song was over, I was forever hooked. I quickly bought the 7" single of "Nancy Drew" and played it repeatedly for over a year. When Teen Beat released "The Pink Album" on CD, I was ecstatic. Blending pop rhythms and harmonies with a spare, no nonsense style, Tuscadero remain one of my all-time favorite bands. From the opening track, "Heat Lightnin'", through to "Nancy Drew" and beyond, the album is a pop masterpiece. I often wondered why the band rerecorded the album for Elektra when the original version sounds so perfect. Although the Elektra release adds a bit of slickness to the recordings (probably for commercial airplay), it really doesn't subtract that much from the band's overall sound. While I agree with Melissa's above stated recommendation to buy the Teen Beat release, any medium which affords you the opportunity to experience Tuscadero's music is well worth the price. Since the mid '90's, Tuscadero has evolved into accomplished live performers and deserve serious consideration from music fans who may be jaded by the current scene. A genuine breath of fresh air.

5 out of 5 stars Bubblegum pop at its finest..........1999-08-04

If these women are free Saturday night, I'll be there at 9 o'clock sharp to pick them up. Named after their leather clad goddess, Pinky Tuscadero from "Happy Days", these girls rock out bubble gum pop like no other. Lyric topics range from old board game references, to respect for the dominatrix profession. Their voices are sweet and hot, making them and their music most desirable.
