What do Black Sabbath and the Power of Zues have in common?.......2007-01-19
They're both totally amazing!!!!!!!!
Fantastic!.......2006-03-20
Don't be a jerk, just buy this record. I know why you're reading this...you like late 60's early 70's hard rock/psych right? If not, you're in the wrong place.
Good heavy rockwith some twists.......2005-10-27
U.S. album from 1970.
Maybe 3,5 stars actually but not the forgotten masterpiece some people talk about - in my opinion. This band has similarities to Mountain, Led Zeppelin and Iron Butterfly. It kicks of greatly with "It Couldn't Be Me" and "In the Night", two rather short tracks that has strong melodies amongst all the heavy fuzz and doomy organ plus a good singer and some nice vocal backing also. Track 3 "Green Grass & Clover" is a calmer song full of harpsichord and religious lyrics. Nice with a contrast to the previous hard attacks. Track 5 "The death trip" is just what the title says a long track about death and beyond ("walk towards the light"). I am willing to accept this track too, based on its original topic and 'interesting' lyrics. The song itself may be a bit limited, and monotonous but has nice organ and some strong punctuated (almost hypnotic) rhytm. Track 9 "Hard Working Man" is a short track (around 2 minutes) but manages to save the day anyway with its very catchy melody and heavy riffs. The last track "Sorcerer of Isis (The Ritual of the Mole)" is another long track that unfortunately doesn't have so many shifting themes, it is a rather boring finale that could have been a more powerful and bold statement.
This band sounds best when they manage to stay out of the trap of sounding like tiresome generic garagerock, and instead sounds like an original mix of late psych-rock and early 70's melodic hardrock.
There are better albums in this genre out there and worse also. What lifts this slightly above the average bunch of heavy rock bands is orginality in some arrangements and a different lyrical topic. Kudos also for the nice packaging from Akarma and their digipac.
