Customer Reviews:
A guitarist's tour de force.......2007-02-08
Guitarist Rick Vito is a recent discovery for me and, suffice it to say,'Crazy Cool' has hardly been out of the CD player since I bought it. Apart from his period with Fleetwood Mac, I know little about this artist, but his guitar technique is awesome, be it lead, slide or rhythm. This is a confident, stylish album in the R & B genre, leaning rather more towards the R than the B.
The CD kicks off with tracks written by John Lee Hooker and BB King, which tells you something about where Vito is coming fom musically, and these cuts are followed by a series of self-penned songs of outstanding quality. Vito's stunning guitar playing is well supported by his top-quartile vocals and excellent backing musicians. This album merits an effortless five stars. Indeed, Rick Vito should be rated in the top tier of guitarists where, as this CD shows, he could easily hold his own with the likes of Clapton, Knopfler and Betts.
Guitar Clinic 101.......2006-06-17
If you like to play the guitar, you will love listening to this. It is a showcase for Rick Vito's excellent blues guitar stylings, with everything from down and dirty slide guitar all the way to clean and clear rockabilly.
I was familiar with his reputation from Fleetwood Mac and his signature Reverend guitar, so I took a chance on this cd. It exceeds expectations.
It starts off with updated slide guitar tributes to John Lee Hooker and BB King, then follows up with a collection of original tunes. The last cut,Love Is Dangerous, is a delightful song written with Stevie Nicks , and features a smokin' guitar intro.
In my opinion, the best cuts are hidden in the middle: You Put A Spell On Me, a surprisingly mellow One Short Life, and the uptempo rockabilly Money & Love.
