Customer Reviews:
Voice from Heaven.......2007-05-07
I was driving home from work one day and heard on the radio a stunning voice of absolute sheer purity and beauty. I thought to myself "I wonder if that's Sissel." It was, and I immediately went online and bought a CD. I loved it so much I've since bought all the ones I can, even those which are mostly in Norwegian. I've bought them and sent to friends. I am a musician, and it's my opinion that there isn't another voice or talent like this one anywhere. She can sing anything - classical, pop, folk, whatever. She has breath and vocal control, clear diction, and a sense of the music and words. Her talent is amazing. Norway is producing some incredible musicians, and this is but one example.
Really Enjoyable.......2007-03-09
Sissel's singing just has a beautiful, ethereal tone. It's a marvelous CD.
Well summed up.......2003-10-01
One of Norway's most beloved singing birds is in this album for the first time in her career giving out a collection of her greatests songs. But "In Symphony" is not to be considered a normal collection as such. The album is recorded during a concert in Drammen Theatre outside Oslo where Sissel was accompanied by the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra in 2001.
The album spans over songs from the whole solo career of the 32-year-old singer. Since her innocent debut in 1986 Sissel has undergone a tremendous development as a singer. This album underlines this development very well by some of the oldest songs of her reportoir, in particular "Kjærlighet" (love), which Sissel performed as a break artist under the Eurovision Song Contest in Bergen in 1986.
Sissel masters an impressing variety of styles, languages and dialects. This album is nothing but an affirmation of her all-round skills. From the evocative '94 olympic hymn "Se Ilden Lyse" to the classical "Våren" (Grieg) and "Oh Mio Babbino Caro" (Puccini) she enters more pop-oriented duets like "Where The Lost Ones Go" (with Espen Lind). Her national-romantic "Vestland, Vestland" and "Mitt Hjerte Alltid Vanker" fit well together with the celtic folk sound "Shenandoah", played with Paddy Moloney from The Chieftans. Her interpretation of Bjørn Eidsvåg's "Eg Ser" and Jan Garbarek's "Molde Canticle" are absolutely some of the highlights of the album.
