Customer Reviews:
Excellent quality; Lacking quantity.......2007-01-14
For the pensive soul searching for ambient and tranquil melodies to accompany his/her thoughts, this album is perfect - almost. The instrumentals are soft and soothing to an astounding degree, leaving u immersed in a sea of simplistic yet brilliant ambience. The only bad thing is that u are forced to curtail each journey due to such short tracks. The average track runs at about 2-3 minutes, and for this style of music I feel that is too short. It would be helpful if the songs ran at least 6 minutes, and preferrably even 10 or so in order to allow the listener to abandon themselves and the worries around them. With 2-3 minutes, I can only begin to enjoy the songs and then worry over when the track is going to change to the next. But overall, I must say that even with the short time provided, the music available is truly a beautiful work of art. I highly recommend for any pensive listener.
Takes Off Where Slowdive Left Off.......2004-09-11
An offshoot of Slowdive, July Skies has composed a beautiful ambient album filled with substance and melodic nuances similar to Slowdive's first album, Just for a Day. They keep it mellow. Some of the wispy, melancholy mood pieces, sound, as another Amazon reviewer observed, like movie soundtracks. There are a lot of textures in this music. It has a complexity that makes it superior than most ambient albums. If you like Slowdive and July Skies, you might want to check out Bark Psychosis, Coastal, Epic 45, Silver Screen, and Sigur Ros.
innocent, weightless music.......2003-04-06
this album would make a beautiful soundtrack to a film about nothing much in particular.
dreaming of spires is a 36 minute shot of clouds streaming across a noonday sky, why not in july.
this music reminds me of the tender side of smashing pumpkins circa pisces iscariot, the movie donnie darko, and the soundtrack to edward scissorhands. throughout this album hums vulnerable youthfulness. for those suburban-wrought kids out there, remember summers of discovering new worlds on your bicycle?
