Seattle's Kane Hodder isn't just another post-hardcore screamo outfit. Critical listens to this 11-track release reveal elements of contemporary prog, traces of pop (both are evident on the gorgeous "You Sign Your Crimes With A Silver Bullet") and just plain well-written songs--"I Think Patrick Swayze Is Sexy" and "Too Much Eddie Kendricks, Not Enough David Ruffin"--separate this band from its contemporaries. This is an emotionally ("A Machine In The World Of Man") and musically (take your pick) complex ride from front to back that may very well surprise skeptics. The Pleasure To Remain So Heartless isn't without its bumps but it is close enough that you quickly forgive whatever faults you find and embrace the album as a refreshing entry into the furious and frenzied world of contemporary rock. You might call this a blueprint for something greater, and what a fascinating blueprint it is. -- Jedd Beaudoin

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars dont listen to that hypocritical jargon... this cd is great.......2006-02-23

ok, so i NEVER write reviews, because really its a waste of time to me. but in this case im making it a point to, because there is so much trash talk about this album from people that obviously have NO clue what theyre talking about...

first off, when i first bought this cd a while ago, i didnt know what to think... these guys are just all over the place. with their crazy guitars and their shifty vocals, i was baffled... i didnt know whether to hate it or love it. and of course, as many times as that happens to me, i give it another try. and i loved it! this is the height of originality... i cant think of a single other band that i can even come close to comparing them to. im not going to get into explaining every guitar riff and every lyric, im just giving an honest opinion. will you like it? only if you like totally original stylings with mixes of screaming, heavy guitars, almost opera singing, mad drum beats, and chaos...

5 out of 5 stars shake your ass and clap your hands.........2006-02-18

Cause that's what you'll be doing while listening to Kane Hodder. Not only is Kane Hodder incredible live & amazing playing through my stereo.. but they're the raddest guys in all of Washington. The Pleasure.. was probably one of the best CD's i purchased in 2005. The mix of dance & hardcore along with Andy Moore's intense vocals makes for good times. Everyone has said nothing but bad. I can honestly say that I love this CD and The Pleasure.. is probably the best CD put out on Fueled By Ramen.

1 out of 5 stars All the songs sound the same.......2005-12-15

Bad lyrics, and even worse guitar playing. What do you get when you put them together? An album to stay away from, unless you like that combo.

1 out of 5 stars Put this album in the dollar store.......2005-12-14

One of the all time lows in my life having wasted money on this CD. Avoid at all costs, I'm gonna record over this junk like a Maxell.

1 out of 5 stars ANOTHER BAD BOY BAND.......2005-12-12

PUT KANE HODDER RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR WORST CD, YOU KNOW....THE ONES YOU DON'T WANT YOUR FRIENDS TO SEE BECAUSE THEY'RE SO BAD FOR THE EARS. I'M NOT SURE IF THE GROUP MEMBERS ARE QUEER, BUT THERE ARE SOME STRONG HOMOSEXUAL UNDERTONES TO THEIR LYRICS. IF THEY WERE A PIRATES THEN THE TERRIBLE LYRICS THAT I CAN'T FEEL IS A BIT MORE UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT NOT EXCUSABLE. IF YOU LIKE LISTENING TO THE SAME SONG LOOP IN CIRCLES FOR HALF AN HOUR, THEN DROP $15 ON THIS TRASH, BUT OTHERWISE, LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, AND THE BOTTOM LINE TO ANY ALBUM, ACTUAL MUSIC.
