5 out of 5 stars Hall & Oates third RCA album.......2005-04-22

1982 saw the release of Daryl Hall & John Oates' third album, this one. Hits include FAMILY MAN,ONE ON ONE(dedicated to basketball players and fans) and MANEATER. Logically,Hall's and Oates's faces are covered with sweat beads on the front cover. The success of 1981's PRIVATE EYES bought H&O lots of studio time to record this album. Hey,they had a contract to fulfill which expired at the end of 1984. In addition to H2O and PE,other RCA albums include VOICES,ROCK 'N SOUL PART 1 and BIG BAM BOOM.

4 out of 5 stars Two Headed Monster.......2004-05-05

"H20" is basically divided into a soul and a rock side.Side
A contains all the hits plus the lean,stripped-down "Crime Pays"
and the rolicking doo-wop of "Open All Night".Side Two contains the rockier "Family Man","Italian Girls" and the catchy "Guessing Games" making this a worthy addition to the
H&O's early 80's showcase.

5 out of 5 stars Good for more than just the hits.......2002-09-20

Hall & Oates were one of those bands that usually is better served by a hits compilation and there were usually only a couple good other songs on studio albums (I also feel that way about Sammy Hagar, Cars, etc) but this is a good exception. I'll always love the dance Rock of the fun but cautionary "Maneater" and the laid-back ballad "One On One". Lesser known hits like the kinda soulful sounding but angry "Open All Night" and the rocking "Family Man". This is one of their harder and underrated songs. This is a funny story of a married guy thinking and than rejecting a prostitute.

John's vocal on the silly upbeat "Italian Girls" (he's right, where ARE they?) and two of Daryl's classic relationships gone bad songs, the happy "Guessing Games" and the New Wavey rocking "Delayed Reaction" are just as good as the hits. The closer "Go Solo" is a slower and softer sounding version of those previous 2 songs. John's other song, the somber army theme "At Tension" and the almost electronic sounding "Crime Pays" and "Art of Heartbreak" are a little flat, but not awful.

As with MANY '80s artists of all genres, what I like here is that though it can be serious or accusatory at times (many songs are about prostitution), it's still fun sounding. In the last few years, it's either boy bands who are too squeaky clean, or grunge-like angry rock and noisy awful Rap/Metal. There's still a few good bands like Foo Fighters and Offspring and on the softer side stuff like Faith Hill, but I still hope this kind of music is cool again.

5 out of 5 stars This One Definately Has Chemistry.......2002-03-30

H2O is awesome. All songs take on a life of their own. You can't go wrong with maneater and One On One. No Hall and Oates album is complete without a John Oates lead. Italian Girls gives us just that, with its upbeat tempo it makes you want to listen over and over. H2o is definately one to listen to.
