Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly okay! .......2005-05-15
Albums like this worry me. Are we going to be subjected to yet another "incredibly talented singer/songwriter"? Well, yes..... sort of.
I have heard this album quite a few times now and I don't mind it at all. It isn't terribly exciting, but Ms Blasko does exhibit some real promise and I am sure that she will have a successful career in pop music ahead of her.
Ms Blasko's voice is quite good and the musical arrangements on this album are interesting and yet unpretentious. This is probably the sort of album one would enjoy listening to in a big armchair with a glass of merlot after a hard day's work.
I had hoped for a little more orchestral music in this recording, but it is generally a very attractive sounding recording. It beats the heck out of Missy Higgins' over-hyped, over-praised and utterly pretentious first album! Sarah Blasko's voice also lacks the annoying, pretentious and overly mannered vocal habits of Ms Higgins.
I rather like Sarah Blasko's first album and I would have given this recording 3½ stars if it was possible. I am not prepared to give this album any more stars at the moment, however, I can honestly say that this is a very acceptable and pleasant abum. I have heard a lot of garbage and "over-hyped" nonsense of late, Ms Blasko (pleasantly) surprised me and that counts a lot in my books!
For those "not-so-chipper" days..........2005-04-15
This was an absolutely beeeeautiful album. I'd heard Sarah Blasko's debut single, "All Coming Back" on Triple J, and i was completely swept away. So i went and got the album about a month later, and i must say i am extremely happy with that purchase :)
There's a really pure and honest quality about Blasko's voice, which adds to the meaning of the songs she sings, she simpers the lyrics and you apply them to your sad, sad life...or even if you're just chillin on a Sunday arvo, it's the type of music that makes you see beauty. It's trippy. Good use of intruments and each song has a really great atmosphere to it. The best part about this album is undoubtedly the vocals, she'll take you through your hardest moments and make you cry, but you'll love it.
Very good emotional and lyrical value, some good songs include:
All Coming Back- "Light up the sky, argue the night, to reveal one thing i did was right. Patterns are laid, fortunes are made, we remark on the way that things remain".
At Your Best- "If only you were at your best, instead of fighting yourself this way".
Perfect Now- "So thats why, i wont wake you where you lay, if i could now, i'd freeze time...i can't find forever in your eyes, i should leave you while they're dry" (This song made me cry)(yeah thats right...CRY)
True Intention- "Dont let me in, i'll shut you out, take control of the wheel and now, lead me onto a sense of my true intention".
She's also great live, doesnt lose a smidgeon of quality.
Stunning.......2005-01-26
This cd was recommened by an Aussie friend of mine and I'm simply blown away by Sarah's music. Her voice is honest and has a character of purity. Combine that with emotion, great lyrics, and introjection of electronic elements....the songs are truly beautiful.
Bonus! THere are guitar chords in the cd-booklet! Way cool!
More etheral female singers from the land of OZ ...........2005-01-18
Alright let's put a side the face that sarah is enchantingly beautiful..... Sarah could slot into the same niche as beth orton and sarah mclachlan but i think she has a bit more edge to her and i think the production is a bit more lo-fi and less produced, which adds to the fragility of her voice.
And she definitley has australian tinges to her voice, which sets her apart aswell.
Can't wait to see her live over this summer.
