Album Description

In October, sixteen years after laying down the first tracks and twenty-three years after their final live performance at the original Soap Creek Saloon, Greezy Wheels is releasing an album. It's called 'Millennium Greezy.'  It'll be on Tana Records.  And, oh yeah, it's their first album in twenty-five years. The 'Eddie and the Cruisers' script should have been so good.  How it took so long for the band described by Burton Wilson as "the most popular band in Austin during the first half of the seventies," and defined by 'The Rolling Stone Record Guide' as "a band ahead of its time," to complete this project is a tale jam-packed with little miracles and big magic...

4 out of 5 stars Creativity Redux.......2004-06-29

Nice hearing these good people back in the groove. They are some of the founding members of our Austin music scene. Gotta love the slide and funky New Orleans keyboard on Roky's Song (a tribute to Roky Erickson)--this should be the soundtrack to Jack Black's movie on him. And "Stick the Doll" embodies the creative spirit this band always brought to their shows. They're a mainstay still of what makes Austin Austin.

I guess I am old enough now that I am realizing that half the things I thought were cool as a kid were only part of being young. I am totally bummed that Greezy Wheels or 'psuedo' greezers have dampened my memory with this release. The magic is gone, the legend is slandered, and the CD reeks of arrogance to even believe that they could reincarnate a sound by putting together a few musicians and calling them greezy. There is no uniqueness, no core of cool to the droning of these monotone dirges. It's better to leave some memories untampered with- this from a long time fan- bummed and betrayed.

I love their first 2 albums they are *****. Don't bother to waste your money on this CD, not sure what they were thinking. It doesn't come close to their early stuff. I was bored out of my mind trying to pay attention to it.
