Customer Reviews:
Woke up this Morning, and I found out I had Wood!.......2004-03-18
Tony Harnell's Morning Wood is a one-off CD that is all acoustic
rock songs. Most of the songs are covers with some originals thrown in. I do not have any idea of when this was recorded as it is not listed inside the insert or CD cover. But I guess it's around 1994-1995. Tony Harnell is one of my favorite vocalists! I love some of his work with T.N.T. but it's his newer band Westworld that is killer. To me that band is the best band in the last 5 years. They've released 3 studio and 1 live effort from 1999 - 2002. But that is Westworld, and this is Morning Wood. I like this CD. It is a strong 4 star effort, and Tony is in amazing voice throughout this whole CD. The only weak moments are with the originals. Not Scared Anymore is awesome. Tony and guitarist Al Pitrelli (of Trans-Siberian Orchestra among many others) are great. Tonight I'm Falling/Crazy on You, which is a remake of the TNT track is great, absolutely beautiful and to segue into Crazy on You is so powerful, Tony makes both songs all his own. More Now than Ever, and Silence are pretty, but they are weak and not really memorable. Sun in Your Sky is good, and a bit better than the last 2 tracks but not as strong as Not Scared Anymore. Now onto
the covers. Love the One Your With (unsure of who actually sang it) is very good. I like it. There are 2 awesome songs from the Eagles. Desperado (which Tony just nails!) and One of these Nights (another great one!). Midnight Rider from The Allman Brothers is relaxing. What's Going On (A Marvin Gaye song) is strong. Love Hurts is weak and maybe I am being bais because I really don't like the song in the first place. Lastly
Give A Little Bit is good, however, again I do not know who sang the original. Morning Wood was just meant to be a one off recording but you'd never know it by how tight the band plays and how much emotion Tony Harnell pours into every song
even if some of the songs don't work well. A must get for TNT fans, and Westworld fans!
Classic gets re-relased for the masses.......2004-03-17
