Customer Reviews:
This band is sorely missed.......2007-04-01
I own a lot of Hipbone music and have seen them a few times. They are the last great musical band this listener has ever seen. Brion Snider is a songwriting genius surrounded by the best in their class. What surprised me was that their youth belies their unbelievable talent.
I had to play my own gig on the night of their last show. What I would have given to be there instead.
Brion, Chris, Aaron and Kevin...if you're reading this, you are sorely missed, and will always be one of my best memories of North Carolina.
An intravenous dose of pure fun.......2000-12-22
Hipbone is a North Carolina quartet that isn't afraid to show just how much fun they have playing music. But unlike other "jam bands" (a misnomer in this case, in my opinion), Hipbone is never sloppy, never pretentious, and never, ever plays an unnecessary note. They are talented musicians with an innate feel for improvisation and groove along with a sophisticated sense of melody. If you dig organ- and sax-driven jazz-inflected funk, then you will be a Hipbone addict within the opening four bars of any of their songs.
Unfortunately, Hipbone played their final show on December 16, 2000. The guys have been together for well over 10 years and have decided to go their separate ways to explore new projects. While their live shows are really the best way to experience them, their albums are special as well.
Wow!!!.......2000-07-23
While most folks in this world are readily accepting their force-feeding of garbage like N'Stink and Britney Squeals, there's a few people out there trying to reclaim the ethic of "substantial and fun music by REAL musicians... for people with more brain cells than credit cards". Hipbone is such a band.
They groove, they jam, and above all, they craft fantastic songs. Hipbone is sometimes compared to their NC neighbors Ben Folds Five, but there are a few differences: Hipbone grooves; Hipbone sings in tune; and, when playing live, Hipbone's sound is tighter than a virgin on Prom Night. To me, the music of Hipbone is a perfect blend of Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder, with their own original flavor of poppy rocky grooves.
i'm still dancing.......1999-10-04
i recommend this cd to anyone who loves music, esp. good music. it's rare to find bands who are impressive live and in the studio. a few words of caution...you will boogie. be prepared.
